Our Christmas Elf
Every year on Christmas Eve, Scott and I would have a party for all our friends in our basement. One year our party ran into the wee hours of the morning. As our friends all made their way home to get some sleep before time for the kids to all get up and see what Santa had brought, Dave and Ralph Fisher had made their way to my living room and fell asleep under the tree next to all the gifts for my daughter Dana and son Michael. Scott and I thought they had left and crawled in bed to get a few hours shut eye. Not long after we fell asleep, my daughter Dana, who was about 8 at the time, came bursting into our room, eyes wide with excitement and announced to us that Santa Claus had left 2 of his elves behind and they were fast asleep under the tree. Scott went to see what she was talking about and sure enough there slept Dave and Ralph. Scott told her they were tired from their long night of delivering presents and we would give them coffee and send them back to the North Pole. We all had a good laugh over coffee and Dave told Dana that Santa left him behind to tell her how good she had been. She believed every word he said. It was one of the most memorable Christmas mornings ever. We still tell the story at Christmas.
