David H. Champion, of Williamstown, NJ, passed on February 10, 2022, surrounded by family & friends, age 74.

Beloved son of Eleanor Champion Carpenter (nee Hoffman), brother of Paul (Sandy) Champion, Marilyn Holland and Betty Lou (Gary) Ebanks.

Dave was always a “Car Guy”; building & fixing Street Rods and being in the  company of the other car guys. He loved Doo Wop & the Oldies, hanging with his  buddy “Lou Costello” the music event MC.

For over 20 years Dave was a successful insurance fraud investigator but returned  to his first passion to serve family as a Funeral Director. Over the last two decades,  Dave was a Director for the Fertig Funeral Home with Bob Fertig, the Blake - Doyle  Funeral Home with Jim McGuinness and the Norton Funeral Home with John & Annmarie Norton. Dave’s devotion to Funeral Service made a lasting impression on those he worked with and the families he served.

Viewing Monday, February 14th, 7 to 8:30 PM and Tuesday, February 15 from 12-1 PM in the FERTIG FUNERAL HOME, 63 North Main St. (Route 45), Mullica Hill, NJ, 08062, where funeral service will begin at 1 PM. Burial beside his beloved Father and Grandparents in the Brotherhood Cemetery, Williamstown NJ.

A Long time ago in the little town of Williamstown, the car guys were assembled on Washington Ave to help install a large I-beam in a 2-car garage so the center support could be removed for more access. The late Charlie Coverly brought his GMC pickup tow truck and it took about 10 of us to finally manhandle it to get it raised high enough to fit into place in the upper portion of the garage ceiling. This only occurred after problems: the height of the truck boom was not high enough, attaching the truck cable to the beam to get it balanced took several attempts, and then the heavy beam had to be finagled manually to get it high enough to land it on the end supporting columns. Of course, the gas engine powered welder that would be used to secure the beam to the columns would not start requiring lengthy troubleshooting to determine that the points in the magneto had to be reset to get the unit running and the beam welded. Such was one of the adventures of the Champion hot rod crusade! Dave is now reengineering the hotrods in heaven!

Although David and7 I were cousins, we never met until we started school at Williamstown High.  David was part of our gang and he had a great sense of humor!!  My fondest memory was when he and Bob Watson took "road trips" together!  No plans, no notice they just showed up in our driveway  in a corvette, (may have been Lynn's vehicle) when we lived in Owens, MD.  They spent the night and it was a memorable event!!  Dave, Eddie and Bob Watson were co-captains for the wrestling team.  Our loss ,but heaven's gain.  Will miss you "CUZ"
