A Long time ago in the little town of Williamstown, the car guys were assembled on Washington Ave to help install a large I-beam in a 2-car garage so the center support could be removed for more access. The late Charlie Coverly brought his GMC pickup tow truck and it took about 10 of us to finally manhandle it to get it raised high enough to fit into place in the upper portion of the garage ceiling. This only occurred after problems: the height of the truck boom was not high enough, attaching the truck cable to the beam to get it balanced took several attempts, and then the heavy beam had to be finagled manually to get it high enough to land it on the end supporting columns. Of course, the gas engine powered welder that would be used to secure the beam to the columns would not start requiring lengthy troubleshooting to determine that the points in the magneto had to be reset to get the unit running and the beam welded. Such was one of the adventures of the Champion hot rod crusade! Dave is now reengineering the hotrods in heaven!

Dave is a forever friend. WHS Class of '65 was better because he was with us. I will always cherish the memories... Thanks, Dave. Rest in peace in the arms of Our Lord. Franny
