Bethlehem Pre-school with Do

April 16, 2023
"Do" just suddenly popped up in my heart today.I did a search and found this.I began working at the Pre-School circa 1975. I interviewed with her and we hit it off. The next 10 years are cherished memories. Thankyou Do for all you taught us. We were Do's angels ❤️I know you are missed. Big love

While my time with Do was relatively short, I cherish all the time I was able to spend with her. I first met Do in the winter of 2012 when I visited the Jasinek family in Wenatchee, WA. I had started dating her grandson, Adam the previous fall and was quickly welcomed into the family by all, and Do was no exception. She was excited to welcome another member into her family, and after reading some of these stories about her, it seems she did that will all of her friends, welcoming everyone into be apart of her family.

She enjoyed putting on breakfast spreads for Adam, Abigail and me when we'd visit Wenatchee, and later Eugene. She'd fill the time telling life stories of family and cherished friends.

One of my favorite traditions holiday traditions I've known is her table cloth tradition. For those that do no know, she had this very special red table cloth that her holiday guests would sign and she would later stich over, tracing the signature and date. What a cherished piece of red cloth... made special by Do each and every year since 1974. We had the honor of signing it again this year at a small gathering at a park this holiday season. and even though she's not here to sign it with us, we're surrounded by her presence and love. For that, I am grateful. Thanks for being the sweetest grandmother to me, Do!

Do Jasinek was an amazing woman. I first met Do when I was in my early twenties, when she was just getting started as the director of Bethlehem Preschool. As so many others have said, Do was a lifelong mentor and friend. She had such a profound effect on me and so many others, and man could she laugh! We had so many moments of near hysterical laughter over the silliest things. There are very few people in life that have the talent, perseverance and love of life that Do did. She loved her children, Gary and Joy, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always spoke so highly of them.
LIFE IS GOOD

Do Jasinek raised an amazing daughter who I have considered my best friend since we were 14 years old. The first time I went to Joy's house as a young teenager, her mom made a lasting impression on me. Do Jasinek was the most positive, encouraging, bubbly, and lively mom ever. Being teenaged girls, Joy and I were skeptical of all the praise and compliments but I have no doubt what that level of boosting did for her family and other's families.
Joy and I are still close and the love and devotion she has shown to her mother is truly special. Do was a fortunate woman to have such a full life with children and grandchildren to be proud of.

I fondly remember Do when she ran the Children's Ministry at Bethlehem.  I was a young mother then with 2 little boys 21 months apart. At that time, it was just my husband and me with no outside family support and I felt a bit overwhelmed and unsure at times.  She always took the time to talk to me, even visited a couple of elementary schools with me and gave me valuable insights, but most of all, someone to connect with, to feel safe with.  I will always remember her wit and humor and her opinion about Learning Circles (Sunday school for young children); it's not the doctrine or any religious study that matters to these kids but rather making it a fun and safe place for them to be.  How very lucky her family is to have had such a wonderful human in their lives.

Teacher of many things

Do was an amazing woman, friend, and teacher! She always listened and took great care and time to make you feel that you really mattered. I began helping her with the Children’s Ministry at Bethlehem when she returned to Encinitas for awhile before moving to Washington to be near family. Do and I had so much fun together! She mentored me and inspired me to take over when she decided to leave even though I’d always worked with jr and sr high youth. One of my favorite memories was going to the La Costa resort with her and watching the men’s professional golf tournament. We stayed till it started pouring then we high-tailed it out of there. She was an avid golfer and I loved to watch the pros so it was a fun adventure I will always remember her sparkling eyes and infectious smile! She was one in a million!

Do was the Director of Bethlehem's 1/2 day  program in 1983. My first born child started in a multi age classroom in the spring of 1983. Do offered "parenting classes" while the children were in school. Many of us stay home moms signed up. I remember very few details of those classes, but what I DO remember was that she encouraged us, to read about children, parenting, to learn and seek new ideas,  but in the end to "trust our hearts". She encouraged us to trust that our  heart could reliably help us know what to do next when it came to parenting. She also coined a term that as an early childhood educator, I still remember fondly; "poodling around"! She reminded us that although exploring activities  such as soccer, dance, art and music, children NEED time that is unstructured, not adult directed, simply "poodling around" time. I heard it , held onto it, and honor it to this day. Her class was the beginning of my education in Early Childhood Education, and in the end I have a Masters Degree, teach Child Development classes in the SDCommunity College system as well as Directing an Infant Toddler, Preschool Program in La Jolla. Thank you Do, for helping ME to find my way forward. You touched many lives...peace...
