I think about Don a lot.  When cycling of course, recalling wonderful group rides around the Marble Mountain loop, and in the Steens Mountains about 20 years ago.  But also on rides to Greensprings or around Dark Hollow locally.  His talent as an engaging conversationalist is especially missed.  I notice his absence at the Roasting Co. when I walk by, and miss seeing him and Ros at the Growers' Market on Tuesday mornings.

Don, you were one of the most quietly intelligent, kindly gentlemen I have ever met in my life. You and Roslyn always made my family and me feel so welcome in your presence. As your neighbor, I will always remember certain things about you: seeing you and Roslyn driving off in your van to go to a distant bike ride; seeing you returning so often from local bike rides, steadily climbing up our street; how you helped our son with his project on Martin Luther King, Jr., telling him some of your personal stories of that time and place; and discussing your experiences as a pilot, including building your own plane. It was always clear to me as well that you loved your family and were deeply loved by them. To me, such caring and giving are the true measure of a life. You have made the world a better place, and I thank you.

I am so very sorry to hear of Don's passing. We met when we were 'stick buddies' in B-727 school many years ago. I so enjoyed Don's humor, his courtly Southern style and very much appreciated his intellectual curiosity as we ventured through the program. Appreciated also were his flying skills and desire to learn and get better. Don, my friend, I shall miss you.
