I have just had a most enjoyable experience.
Years ago Donald gave me a DVD on Milling Springs.
He had produced this DVD in 2001! He had established
a cafe at Milling Springs, just above Gordon Town.In the DVD
I saw many old friends, including Fred Duquesnay and Ross Murray. All three were great friends.
I first heard the Ride of the Valkerys on Ross hi fi system!
Donald help me in more ways than I could describe. And I stayed at his home for many years.
He knew most of the people at the Synagogue. Plus he saw the tombs
of ancestors.at the Orange Street Jewish cemetery,
This was a wonderful experience. Thanks to Donald I now
have documentation of my many experiences in Jamaica..

The kind soul

February 8, 2018

Donald was an incredible kind soul who was a giving person who was the strong quiet and firm observer and participant of life. It always amazed me how energetic he was and always the first to lend a hand to help you.

My mother, was Donald’s sister in law but I saw Donald more of a brother to her. He made her a priority in his life after Raymond passed on.

Donald was very organized and ensured the in home nursing care was always covered which was no easy task. This is where he truly was selfless and and we’re for ever thankful for his watchful eye. He made the arrangements for Mummy funeral and inernment at Saint Andrew’s Parish Church where Raymond, Donald, and Alison Are together.

Donald worked tirelessly with Merrill Needham and then Prime Minister Bruce Golding to officially honour Mapletoft Poulle and Alison Poulle Lindo to recognize both as cocompser and co author of the Jamaica National Anthem.

Donald always had  proper dinner when I stayed with him and was fearless driving me from here to there, wherever we needed to go.

The dinners were always a great surprise, whether it was curry goat and rice and peas with sour dip juice. He linked me back to my boyhood days growing up in Jamaica and had me asking “Why  do I live in Delaware again?”

Remembrance of my good friend

February 1, 2018

As related by Ken Hicks, age 93.

How did we meet? Around 1930, when I was 6, my family moved to Spaldings when my father Rev Hicks established a new Presbyterian church in that town.  Soon afterwards my sister and I were invited to a birthday party for either Donald or Raymond.  We became good friends.  My wife Isabelle also had contact as a child with the Lindos and recalls hearing Donald's father playing the piano at the DeRoux home, and recalls Mrs. Lindo as a lady of great taste and talent.

After being schooled by Miss Nash I moved back to Kingston at age 9 to attend school and live with my grandmother at Half Way Tree. I re-connected with Donald when his mother opened the Green Gables guest house, also near Half Way Tree. We were both interested in classical music and had started collecting records .I recollect us playing music rather loud at Green Gables so that Mrs. Lindo had to ask us to turn down the volume!  Donald also visited at my grandmother's house where we listened to opera.  In latter years Donald was able to enjoy opera performances broadcast at the cinema near his house.

We lost touch as I left for Mandeville to begin work as a surveyor while he entered the life insurance industry in Kingston.  In the 1970s, when I returned to Kingston, we resumed our friendship.  We have been in communication ever since, in part through his championship of a promising young pianist.  We were delighted that he was able, with Freddie DuQuesnay, to attend our 50th wedding anniversary party at our home in Runaway Bay.  He has visited us here at other times, including with his cousin Angela Fraser.  On our rare visits to Kingston we have dropped in to visit with Donald at Lady Musgrave Road and reminisce about old times.

We talked very frequently in the last few years, sharing an interest in genealogy and classical music.  His generosity was very evident in his efforts to support Mikhail Johnson through his efforts to pursue a career as a classical pianist and introducing him  to David Johns who became his teacher.  Mikhail is now at university in the US and doing very well through Donald's kindness and efforts. Donald would be so proud to hear that Mikhail is now pursuing a doctorate degree.

Donald was a very caring person, always helping a friend and we will very much miss talking to him.

Happy 89th birthday@

January 7, 2018

It was a blessing to arrive in Jamaica on Uncle Don's 89th birthday and celebrate with him!

Great memories

January 6, 2018

This trip in August was a blessing in many ways.  We arrived on August 6 (Uncle Don's birthday), and celebrated with a cake which we made and brought with us.  The trip was extra special because it was Jordan Lindo's (Michael's son) first trip to Jamaica, and he had the opportunity to meet and get to know Uncle Don, and learn about the Lindo genealogy.  We traveled Jamaica together and made many memories...  It was also a great time for cousins Jordan and Preston to get to know each other better.  This was taken the night before we returned to Florida.
