Donald J Sigovich 1951 - 2019
After a very brief illness, Don Sigovich passed away on Friday, October 18, 2019, surrounded by his loved ones.
Don was born in Pittsburgh, PA on January 26, 1951. His parents and two brothers, Jack and David, settled in Weston, CT when Don was four years old. Don attended public school and was a 1969 Staples High School graduate, where he played on the Varsity Soccer team.
1969 was an adventurous year for Don. In May, just weeks before graduation, he and three friends made an impromptu road trip to California leaving High School during their “free period” with only the clothes on their backs and $800 from Don’s college fund. They arrived in Berkeley, CA just in time to help lay sod on People’s Park on the Berkeley campus. They trod the infamous corner of Haight and Ashbury Street and witnessed the dying embers of the flower power revolution. In August, Don attended The Woodstock Festival along with 500,000 of his brethren.
Don graduated from R.I.T. in Rochester, NY with a degree in printing, typography and photographic technique, setting the course for a lifelong love for the printed image and word.
In 1980 Don married Deborah Adkins and moved to Westport, CT where they raised three daughters, Tara, Kelley and Megan. They divorced in 2002.
Don’s knowledge and passion for his work was indisputable. His loyal clientele was a special part of his life, as many viewed him as a true maestro, a mentor, an artist and a friend. Those who knew him were lucky to witness the gift of Don’s generosity, devotion and talent for the arts. The scope of Don’s passions extended far beyond art; he was an avid reader, he loved music, theater, sports, politics, food and wine, and he was so proud of his Croatian heritage. His love of soccer led to many friendships with a diverse crowd of people throughout the course of his life. He was a diehard Arsenal fan.
In 2007 Don started dating Elizabeth Reese. When not at work they were always together, spending much of their time enjoying the multitude of interests they shared. They visited museums, theaters, sporting events, and some of the finest restaurants in the world – traditions that she and her daughters, Louise, Eliza and Sarah Duvall plan to continue in Don’s memory.

Don’s sudden illness and departure has devastated and shocked his friends and family. Don’s passion, generosity, loyalty and intelligence will be remembered by all those who knew him.
