In addition to his wife Mary, family members include:

Sister: Lavon M. Hanson and husband Jeffery
Nephews: Eric and Brett Hanson

Prior to retirement, Mr. Kraus was a teacher at VSDB with 24 years of service. He was recognized as Teacher of the Year (1997). He taught science and reading high school classes. 

Don was also the boys and girls' basketball coach in the 1970s.
