Unfortunately, there's a lot of people who will be losing mothers and grandmas in the next couple of months. I doubt many of them will know how profound an effect it will have.
And its even worse when you have probably the best Mum there ever was. x
I will never ever forget that 7 times 7 is 49.
One day we were driving home, from somewhere, and Mum's Mini started making a funny noise. We found out what it was when, about a minute later, the car spluttered to a halt, out of fuel. Yes, a dry fuel pump is audible just before you run out,
We were just near the turn-off for what is now Sainsbury's.
Someone, possibly Jane, was sent home (no mobiles back then), to get Dad with a can of fuel to get us home.
To keep us amused, I think Jocelyn was there too, Mum tested us on arithmetic and the times tables.
I was pretty good at 'sums' but wasnt so hot on the 7 times table. And despite several attempts to get it right I kept fluffing it. So Mum said, look, repeat 7 times 7 is 49, 10 times out loud, then said that the day I remembered it, was the day we ran out of fuel and had to wait for Dad to rescue us!
It bloody worked, I never forgot it ever again and probably never will !
