Another year passes but memories remain. I was amazed to learn today more of Jim's story that he was a Missionary at Mt Hagen ! In 1969 my fellow Hort Advisor Brian Brandon and wife Elaine were to go to Mt Hagen to in c1970/71?
A small world, as mentioned before I wish I had spent more time with Jim at his book shop in Onehunga but too busy too busy working away not taking time for other important things in life ! Today have had a memorial candle lit for Jim.

5 years since you left my world. And I feel the same as the day you went. Everyday I stand on your shoulders and think of you. A man of love and many achievements but also of many human faults. My children keep me from the sadness of your passing but I will never forget you!

Time passes but the memories remain, especially the written word especially when reinforced with a picture. A great site.

I am delighted to discover this site to learn what happened to Jim. My mind returned to him when looking through some old photos recently taken in Hawkes Bay in the ea 70's. I was a Horticulture Advisory Officer with the Dept AG/NZMAF. I helped Jim with some research on the emergence of apothecia of Scelrotinia in dwarf tomatoes. Both he and Ken Milne returned from Davis at the same time. It nearly came to pass that the pair were appointed to the first research stn to be set up by Watties. In fact that was another project I monitored a Hirst spore trap for Jim set up in one of Sir James Golden Queen blocks at his home property. I last saw Jim in his book shop in Onehunga.
I wish I had made contact earlier. He was a good man. Great to learn more about him at this site... Thanks very much. adios Jim . I will try to add a photo from that time if I can manage the technology !
