Traveling under difficult conditions

May 1, 2023
Sometime in the mid 90th I was at a longer business trip working at a refinery in Scotland. In the middle of it I was informed that Pat and Hans Meder will come up for meeting with the customer. They traveled by train coming from London and I picked them up at the Edinburgh train station. For my stay I had rented an Opel Corsa (a tiny car). It was a bit too small for 3 people with luggage, so we ended up with Pat on the back seat having a big case on his knees. I expected some kind of a complain but no, Pat and Hans were in the best mood. I wont forget their smiling faces. They were obviously proud that I was so careful with company money...

Just do the right thing

April 28, 2023
As a long time employee of Pat's company, I feel his loss deeply. My sincerest condolences to his dear family.

Getting to know the culture Pat created at OSIsoft, some Pat-isms come to mind. He always encouraged employees to speak up when they saw something they didn't agree with, no matter the source. He felt that doing the right thing by customers would always be a winning strategy, and his success showed that to be true. He also encouraged everyone to spend money as if it was their own.

One quick story: Before I was an OSIsoft employee, I worked for a consulting company that developed products for OSIsoft. The tradition at the time was to write a design document or user guide when you wanted to propose a new product for development. I had written such a document to propose a web-based tool and Pat liked it so much, he published it on the web site. I was both pleased and taken aback that he had so much confidence in us that he made the document public. What an amazing man.

$250,000 on a handshake

April 28, 2023
Pat is one of the most amazing individuals I have ever met.
When Simon Wright and myself started industrial evolution back in 2000, Pat funded our company launch with a license to use the OSIsoft PI software and a cash infusion of $250,000.
Now that may not sound like much today but for us relative youngsters looking to start a company it was a tremendous boost.
In my family, it’s still very much a legend, that Pat Kennedy would send $250,000 to my new company bank account based on trust and a handshake. This man has set an example for my life, and I’m sure for many others.
Pat, you will be missed, and I pray every blessing over your family, your wife, Patty, your children and grandchildren.

Taking Pat on a ride down from Frankfurt to Walldorf

April 27, 2023
Back in 2012 or 2013, Pat came over to Germany to meet with SAP. Since I was doing the technical part with SAP, I got to be at this meeting as well. So I took Pat, Martin Otterson and Jesus Hernandez from the OSIsoft office in Frankfurt down to the SAP Headquarters in Walldorf. Martin and Jesus were sitting in the back and talked all the time about business related stuff in a way like kids that want to convince the parents to get some sweets or stop by at a popular fast food restaurant. Pat looked out of the window and said to them: "Look at these transmission lines..."

This was such a hilarious situation, I wished you have seen the faces of Martin and Jesus - unpayable!

Innovator, Mentor and a Top Notch Human Being

April 26, 2023
I heard about Dr. Pat Kennedy passing away from a common friend. Our deepest condolences to his family and may he rest in peace. I met Pat in San Leandro several years back through my network at International Society of Automation. He was a pioneer, advisor, mentor and an inspiration to all of us. I have met his wife at PI world and worked closely with his colleagues, family at his San Leandro office. He will be dearly missed. His passing feels like the loss of Steve Jobs. RIP!

His best advice for me over the years is "never take external money for your business if you don't have to". " Do proof of value;  not proof of concept because the customer does not have money to spend on your concept". He incubated our company and changed the lives of several engineers.

Dr. J. Patrick Kennedy

April 26, 2023
My deepest condolences to Patty, Kathy and the extended Kennedy family on the passing of Pat.

Pat was one of the greats and a lovely human being. His talent for rabble rousing with a spark in his eye, mixed with intellect and curiosity, influenced an industry and several generations of software developers. Pat's ability to quickly strike a mischievous pose was second to none. I've met many people and Pat holds a special place in my heart. I loved working with him and will always remember him with a smile. Pat and I worked for over a year to bring OSIsoft and AVEVA together with the help of many. With a shared belief in people and a better world through industrial software, we stared at each other and our living rooms thousands of miles apart and worked through both good days and difficult days. With his living room piano, the family cat and Patty playing their occasional part in a story, I left each day feeling good and glad to have spent that time with Pat. Thank-you for sharing him with the world.

With fondest wishes and respect,
Craig Hayman

Thank you

When I think about the past ~25 years that I've been doing something related to PI in my career ... first as a PI customer and then making a career change and joining OSIsoft and you realize just how much impact Pat / OSIsoft has had on my life and by extension, my own family's life.  Everyone writing their stories here can say the same.  Pat cared about our customers and his OSIsoft family deeply and I'm really grateful to Pat for this.

It's great inspiration reading all the stores everyone has about Pat.

My condolences to the Kennedy family.

One of a kind

April 25, 2023
Dr. Kennedy was one the best presenters I have ever met. No matter the size of the audience he could captivate the room with his expertise. For years I got to work on his events and I always got a kick in telling him, "we have your slides Sir!"

They certainly don't make people like him anymore! He will be very missed!!

Pat a great example of leadership

April 25, 2023
My name is Ana Danielson (Vivas) and I had the opportunity to meet Pat when I worked at Osisoft.
Pat Kennedy represents for me an example of determination, leadership, but most important an example of being a simple human.
I asked him once, how should be the mindset of an entrepreneur, and he answered me, Ana never give up your dreams, follow your heart and execute your vision, that's it.
He will be missed
