I would like to begin by thanking the Almighty God for the life of my most wonderful, incredible and amazing brother and friend, Dr. Olumide Awe.
While time and space will not permit me to share it all, I just want you to know that forty-two years ago, I became an addition to the Awe family as a result of his love and kindness. While he was studying in Canada, Dr. Olumide Awe was constantly in touch with me. During his first home visit from Canada, he brought several gifts for me and made sure that I was home with the family to receive them. On several occasions, he encouraged me to apply to go to school in the same university that he attended but he was happy to know that I had chosen to go to school in Washington D.C.
Dr. Olumide Awe represented the epitome of love and kindness in my view. He genuinely cared about his family, his fellow human beings, he was compassionate and he was always willing to give selflessly and share without desiring something in return. He introduced me to his friends the O’briens and others. He introduced me to several old Boys that I neither knew nor met and reconnected me to others that I had previously lost touch with. I will always treasure the times I spent with Dr. Olumide Awe and his family in both London and Washington, D.C.
I read the tributes that were written by friends and family members in honour of my brother and friend Dr. Olumide Awe and I could not find anything to disagree with. You said it all but most importantly, you told the truth about his life and character.
Olu, you came to the world, you gave joy to all, you shared love and kindness with all and you helped me live and see it all. Thank you, thank you and most of all, thank you for taking me as your brother and true friend. I will never forget you and your family. Rest in peace my brother and true best friend.
