Williams Akinola Akanji was born on October 1st, 1960 to Mr. and Mrs. Akinbola Akanji in Agebrire village, Iwo in Osun state Nigeria. He was the third of six children.
He grew up in the village helping his dad on the farm. He was a very brilliant child and his dad encouraged him to focus on his books. When they go to the farm, his father would ask him to stay in a corner reading his books and rub dirt on him when it was time to go home so that it looks like he was doing farm work.
He excelled in primary school and went to Ibadan after his primary six education to work as a house help for three years to raise money for his modern school education. He got a scholarship to go for his secondary education in Baptist High School Iwo. There he met his wife Rebecca (then Rashidat). The two became friends and later sweethearts. She became a Christian as a result of the union and became Rebecca.
He studied medicine and graduated from University of Ibadan and proceeded to do his mandatory NYSC in Bende local government in Imo state.
He settled in Ibadan after his NYSC and began his career at Adeoyo State Hospital. He also worked at Teju Specialist hospital, Camaria hospital, West Gate hospital before opening his own clinic Olufolake Medical Clinic which is now called Heritage Comprehensive Hospital.
He participated actively as a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Oyo state chapter where he was one of the NMA building committee, as well as the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN) where he served as Financial Secretary (Treasurer) and was awarded the prestigious Distinguished Medical Practitioner (DMP) and Fellow of the Association of General Practitioners (FAGP) which is the last cader in his profession of Private practice.
Williams Akanji was a man of prayer and deep knowledge of the word of the word of God. He was a giver always willing to support the work of God. He gave his time, knowledge and substance. He was an eloquent speaker and a great story teller, there is never a dull moment with him.
Your life was and continues to be an inspiration to many, the steps you left in the sands of time and your words of wisdom will forever echo.
This is not goodbye, sleep on till that bright resurrection morning when we will re-unite in celebration with the saints.
