Determined to succeed

May 29, 2011

I first met Dwayne in Atlanta in 2005 during our first residency with the University of Phoenix. Classroom work was mostly team building, so Dwayne and I and  three others worked together well, mainly because he was willing to do his part and more. I never knew Dwayne was a diabetic and he never led on that he was having any difficulty. He smiled constantly and was always a gentleman. He exhibited qualities in a man that spoke clearly determined to succeed no matter what he had to do. My dissertation journey has been difficulty filled with setbacks and obstacles, but Dwayne's spirit has been there to push me on. While looking for a copy of an article, Dwayne's picture that Aunt Mary sent me appeared out of nowhere. As I type this very story, Dwayne's  picture is positioned at my workstation looking over me as I work. Now I as I come to the end of writing the final pages of my research study, I am reminded by Dwayne's constant vigil that I can do it, just as he was "Determined to succeed."  Thank you Dwayne for inspiring me, and know that we have a date in heaven!

Dwayne

I remember what a wonderful brother you were.  As kids you always looked out for me a protected me from the bullies in the neighorhood.  When they found out that you were my brother, they left me alone.  I will never forget that about you.  You truly loved your family and you showed it.  I love and miss you.
