Another Birthday

July 28, 2018

Another birthday w/o you!  I went to the cemetery, put new roses in your vase, then went to one of your favorite restaurants, The Roadhouse.  No birthday card, no cake, no calls to wish you a Happy Birthday!  I pray that you are celebrating & can't wait to celebrate with you again! Love, Joy

Ed's Story

October 9, 2014

Ed was born on July 28, 1952, to Velma Jean Cook Young and Edwin L Young, Sr.  He was born in Citizens General Hospital New Kensington, PA, the 3rd child, and their only son.  Ed attended the schools in Arnold, PA, graduating from Valley High School - Arnold Campus in June of 1970.  He married Joyce Kimberly Deegan on Saturday, August 14, 1971 @ 5:30 pm in Trinity United Church of Christ, New Kensington, Pa, the pastor was Bruno Pueschel.  A reception followed at the bride's home, Tom & Dorothy Deegan in New Kensington, PA.  Four years later on July 12, 1975, they welcomed their first son, Jason Thomas Young, born in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, PA. Four years later they welcomed their second son, Timothy Edward Young, born on February 12, 1979, also born in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, PA.  When first married Ed was employed by Klingensmith Hardware Store of New Kensington, PA.  He was the shipper/receiver.  He then went to work for Milliken Brick Company where he was the kiln operator.  He then went to work for American Roller Bearing Company as a machinst.  When that company closed their doors, he then returned to school, the New Kensington Commercial School, where he received a diploma for Computer/Accounting.  He then went to work for II-VI of Saxonburg, Pa.  Where he was a senior polish/grinder for laser optics.  Ed worked on many government projects, both for the United States & Israel.  He also worked on many projects for NASA, and developed his own ideas on a lot of projects.  He also loved to do ceramics, and had his own shop called SIRamics.  He also trained as a first responder, later getting his EMT.  He also taught CPR at Butler Community College, and was able to train a lot of people on how to do CPR.  In July 2011, Ed was given the devasting news of cancer.  His cancer was a rare form, where it started in the appendix.  He did several rounds of chemo, and also 2 surgeries.  The cancer was too aggressive, he fought valiantly, but lost the battle in February of 2012.  From there he flew home to his heavenly Father, and now resides there watching over his earthly family.  Out of all Ed's accomplishments, the one he was most in love with was his granddaughter, Aleah Young.  From the moment he was told he going to become a Papster to a granddaughter, he held her heart in the palm of his hand.  Their relationship was much more than grandfather/granddaughter.  When she was little she would hunt all over the yard for a "special" rock to give him.  Later in life she would call him her rock!  He was her bestest buddy, their love for each other was beyond anything and everything.
