Eddie E. Stinson, 83, of
Peoria, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Unity Point Health Proctor
in Peoria.
Funeral services will be at
10 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at First United Methodist Church in
Peoria. Reverend C.L. White Jr., from Grace Baptist Church in Peoria will bring
the eulogy. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Entombment will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
Eddie was born on April 16,
1936 in Brownsville, TN, a son of Oscar and Geneva (Graves) Stinson. He married
Ruth E. Gilbert on April 19, 1955 in Brownsville. She survives.
He is also survived by his
children, Marcus (Camie) Stinson of Maryland, Victor Stinson, Cecelia Stinson, Alisa
Stinson and Cynthia Stinson, all of Peoria; grandchildren, Brittany, Marcus
Jr., Shawn, Sharria and Sherrell Stinson, who is carrying on his legacy as a
police officer; ten great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sisters and a
brother.
Eddie served the Peoria
community for 36 years as a Peoria Police Officer. He joined the department on
December 15, 1964 and retired on April 15, 2001. Throughout his career, he
worked the patrol division, was a school liaison officer and a detective. He
was an integral part of establishing the Peoria Afro American Police League. This
group was dear to his heart and the family requests that memorial contributions
may be made in Eddie’s memory to it.
After he retired from the
police department, he worked at the Peoria Park District for a year and then
was a US Marshall for ten years. He was inducted into Peoria’s African American
Hall of Fame.
Funeral arrangements have
been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, in Peoria.
