Evelyn Reyes (née Cruz), 88, of Patterson, New Jersey died peacefully in her home on April 26th surrounded by family.
Evelyn was born on September 9th, 1933 in Manila, Philippines to Esteban and Maria Cruz. It is here she met her late husband, Angelo Reyes, whom she married in 1950. Together they moved to New York in 1952, where they were blessed with the birth of their only child, Angelica. A skilled seamstress, Evelyn worked in New York’s Garment district before semi-retiring and offering sewing services out of her home. After the passing of Angelo, the love of her life, Evelyn moved to Patterson, New Jersey where she lived for the remainder of her life.
Evelyn will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor, and tenacity. There was never a problem too big for her, nor a person undeserving of her help. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Evelyn’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and friends who became family. She is survived by her only daughter, Angelica, and her beloved granddaughter, Floribeth. She is preceded in death by her husband, Angelo, and her sister, Ramona.
Due to COVID restrictions, private services for friends and family will take place on April 27th at Davis & Sons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in her name to Paterson’s St. Joseph’s Church, a place Evelyn spent a great deal of time and cherished greatly.
