Father David was a great man of God. We watch a few Cowboys games together and talked religion some . Him being Catholic and me being Baptist made quite the conversation .One thing that we both agreed on is you either have Jesus in your heart or you don't . His job as well as mine was to make sure as many people as we came in touch with did in fact have Jesus in their hearts . He did a great job of that . He was a good friend . great man of God , and a good Cowboys fan . I miss him a lot as i know many that he came in contact do as well. Bless you Father David , thanks for all you did . Have a great time in heaven . See you soon . .

Happy Birthday, Dear Fr. Richter!
Today, while working through the stacks on my desk, I came across a Holy Card of Saint Brother Andre, that Fr. Richter had given me. He obviously admired the Saint very much so I was interested in his life, especially since it was a gift to me.

At first Brother Andre was assigned to be doorkeeper at the Collège Notre-Dame and later named caretaker at that house of prayer, which he shepherded into existence on Mount Royal. He welcomed thousands of distressed people who were looking for a ray of hope.

He listened to them and recommended that they pray to Saint Joseph in whom he had full confidence. Any number of miraculous healings took place there and hearts turned toward God.
Even before he was canonized in 2010, his reputation for holiness crossed frontiers and influenced generations of people.

So why did he give me that holy card? My sister passed away in January 2014 after about five years in a nursing home suffering from alzheimer's.

Brother Andre is the Patron Saint of Family Caregivers and was known for miraculous healings!

Dear Father Richter, thank you for hearing all of our Novena petitions and please share them with Saint Brother Andre, as well.

FR. DAVID T. RICHTER’S LEGACY TO CONTINUE THROUGH MEMORIAL FUND

FEBRUARY 28, 2018   JRINAUDO

by Diane Libro

Fr. David T. Richter served the Diocese of Shreveport for 29 years with a quiet but fierce passion for God and the Church. Three years after his unexpected death at age 57, his three brothers are continuing his ministry by establishing the Fr. David T. Richter Memorial Fund. The foundation supports vocations and pro-life efforts.

“He could have done a lot more good through the years,” brother Randy Richter said. “I wanted to help him and support the work he had done.”

Fr. Richter was raised in a devoutly Catholic home, where his parents prayed one of their four sons would become a priest. The real push came from the Dallas Cowboys. In 1970 the team faced a tough game, so 13-year-old super-fan David made a deal with God. If they won, he would read the whole Bible. They did, and he did.

The call to the priesthood came shortly thereafter. After graduating Fair Park High School, he attended seminary. There he met Fr. Bede Lackner, a Cistercian who became his spiritual director throughout his life.

They met only a few times a year, but Lackner described Fr. Richter as a “true servant of God,” “humble,” “fervent,” “patient” and “inspiring.”

“He was a chosen one, had no religious conflicts and led a saintly life,” Lackner said.

Ordained in 1986, he served the Diocese of Shreveport as parish priest, Vicar General, Director of Vocations, chaplain of Catholic Scouting, canon lawyer and many other positions.

He taught people about the power of silence, thinking before speaking and the power of devotion to Mary and the Eucharist.

To his family, he was a voice of measured counsel and spiritual guidance as well as presider at baptisms, weddings, and their parents’ last rites.

“One of my strongest emotions following his passing is during the Consecration of the Mass,” younger brother Kevin Richter said. “I will tear up remembering how he loved the Mass, our Lord and being His priest.”

Fr. Richter’s quiet, thoughtful nature belied a passionate commitment to the gospel and the truth. Each month
Fr. Richter wrote checks totaling a few hundred dollars to various charities – gifts discovered after his death that surprised his brothers.

Other efforts were more public. He joined prayer and protest in support of the pro-life movement, and was once arrested outside of an abortion clinic.

“One of the cops said I can’t arrest a priest,” but another had no such qualms, brother Mark Richter said. “They detained him and let him go.”

His approach was simple: “Do the right thing,” said Teresa Brandle, who met with Fr. Richter once a month or so for spiritual direction for more than 20 years. While over the years they discussed deep theology and challenging issues, she said his direction always came back to the basic truth.

“Fr. Richter said to me that that if we both strived to be holy, followed the teachings of the Church and received the Sacraments often, we could be saints too,” she said. “I’m counting on the intercession of Fr. David Richter to help me get to the Eternal Kingdom.”

By all accounts, Fr. Richter would not want much fuss made about him after his death, but he was also the kind of priest who would not let his personal wishes interfere in the work of promoting the gospel.

Continuing his legacy will require a large investment, and Randy Richter hopes those who remember him fondly will make a gift to the foundation.“He was my baby brother. I prayed for him. I want to continue this work.”  •

I attended St Theresa elementary school and David was in my class. He was quiet and always smiling. We lost touch over the years but I did see him when he was at St Elizabeth’s in Shreveport La. He is greatly missed. His reverence and old fashioned respectful ways was greatly appreciated. He truly honored God by everything he said and did. I truly regret I didn’t stay in touch with him over the years. I know my sister Cathy still goes to St Elizabeth’s and misses him and his guidance. Rest in peace and hope your birthday is celebrated in heaven. What a wonderful day!!

Star Wars

January 4, 2018

Fr. David loved the Star Wars movie series.  One night he dropped by my house to visit and my son William was playing a Star Wars video game.  Fr. David took a seat next to him on the floor and they played the game together for several hours, Fr. David clutching my son's light sabor and waving it with great flair while he hooped and howled with my boy.

My son gushed after his visit, saying it was so cool that a priest liked Star Wars as much as he did!  What a sight the two of them were there on the floor together.  I will always treasure that memory!!

I was blessed to know Fr. David at both Christ the King and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.  I marveled at his calmness no matter what happened.  He enjoyed coming to visit at the school (Christ the King) with the students and was such a great role model for them.  His genuine caring was apparent to all.
We were so excited when we found out that he would be coming to St. Elizabeth's.  He was just what we needed after losing Fr. Burleigh.  It was not too long after his arrival that we moved to Houston.
He is still missed.
