A great soul
serves everyone
all the time.
A great soul
never dies.
It brings us together
again and again

This is why we have all come here today.  This memorial website was created in memory of one of Trinidad's finest, Fitzroy Greene, 81 years old, born on July 18, 1939, and went to sleep for the last time on June 6, 2021. It goes without saying, 81 years of life was not enough time as we miss him now and will remember and miss him forever.

This is a time for us all to celebrate Mr. Greene's life, the great things he did, the reasons he made us smile and the kindness of his heart.  He captured many moments in time with his camera's, so now is the time for us all to look back and capture the great times we spent with him.

We understand due to the Global Pandemic, we cannot all meet as we would in the past.  The funeral will take place July 11th at 11 am.

For those that cannot make it, please join us via Zoom's video conference platform by clicking the link below:

This was truly one of the best and most poignant funeral services that I have ever attended. The family tributes were heartfelt. I particularly appreciated Tracey's as she was talking about slideshows - I too remember those days..it really was the technology.
The preacher was real and the plain way that he relayed his message hit me in a deep place. I was tearing up throughout. Thankfully the tissues were nearby.
I think for me it was particularly poignant because in many ways, Roy encouraged me during a time that I wasn't receiving that level of support from my own father. My sense is on some level he saw that and filled in where he could.
We didn't see each other often - just during the times that we would hand off the show, one programmer to another during our CHRY days - but he would always ask about my career, how I'm doing, and root me on any time he saw me. I am grateful to have known Roy. I am honoured to have attended his memorial. I will miss him but I know I am better because I knew him. Thanks to the family for making this tribute available over Zoom. I wish you peace and comfort at this time. /d

I need to add an additional memory that we shared on a daily basis. My heart was always so happy that you absolutely adored your first granddaughter Charlotte and how you would brighten her day when you would talk to her or sing her happy birthday songs in the goofy way that you did. You always said she’s going to give me a run for my money and you are right. She’s all “Greene” and there’s never a dull moment because she lights up our life the way you lighted up mine. She’s crafty, funny, and highly intelligent. She adores you and I’m thankful for the impression and memories that you’ve left with her. We love you eternally and when we are lol together in the end there will be endless laughter and love.

My memories of Roy are fond. We first met in radio as I was the station manager for 105.5FM and he was one of our faithful programmers. Off air we would talk politics and music and he would always run jokes and challenge my sensibilities and cultural interests. He always meant me well and I figured out he had respect for me when he recommended I join the board of Black Creek Community Health Centre (BCCHC). He would serve as the board secretary for his last years on the board. He kept us honest to our commitment to community even in recruitment and was always jovial and fun-loving at our retreats. The respect was mutual as I saw a man invested in community and versed in music. May Roy Greene Rest In Peace… his life was one of contribution and joy. I am grateful to have shared the same air.

Uncle was a humble person.  I often converse with him on numerous issues throughout the years and he gave me great advice. He saw the good in everybody and everything. Sometimes he would send me the funniest videos and when he was in a good mood he would say I am going to look for the grass skirts. The entire family even my in-laws enjoyed when he came to stay with us because he was always contented and full of laughter.  He will truly be missed.

From Richard Greene
Dad was a professional photographer besides his many accolades, my fondest memory of him took me back to when I was just nine (9) years of age. I remember the pride he took in teaching me how to hold and angel the camera… focusing on an object, taking the best picture there was!
Back in those days, there wasn’t any photo filter; if you’re face ugly, that was your take home!. Dad was able to pause time with his photographer and allow others to view the beauty that would have passed us by.
As I grew into manhood I took into consideration, the product of his professional work and the impact it had on my life, and what I can now teach my son. Don’t just look, see; see beyond your sight, see beyond perceptions and perspectives, opinions and innuendoes; see the truth for what it is and show it to others in all of its glories.
Time will fail me to tell all the wonderous stories and my fondest memories of my number one fan, my dad. I had the distinctive pleasure of being his first-born Son, I am pleased to have know him and appreciate all the love and support he bestowed upon my siblings and I , and feel honored that he has contributed tremendously to fraternities that aimed at enlightenment and propelling others to reach their highest potential.
I love you Dad! Rest in Eternal Peace

TO OUR BELOVED FAMILY MEMBER, ROY

To say that we are sad, grieved, heartbroken and in pain is an understatement.
Eventually we understood that this day would come, but we were NOT expecting it so soon.
It was not until 1945 when I first discovered the joy of having YOU as my big brother.  The fond memories I collected while growing up together are too numerous to mention. Yes, the years went by quickly and even though we settled in different provinces, you were ALWAYS a telephone call away.  We miss the certain connection.
YOU made an indentation in our hearts which is impossible to remove…SO,
WE ARE sending a dove to Heaven with a parcel on its wings. Be careful when you open it, it is fill with beautiful things.  Inside are a million kisses wrapped up in a million hugs….to say how much we miss you and to send you all our LOVE.
WE HOLD you close within our heart and there you will remain.  To walk with us throughout our lives UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN.

Dear Brother..

When I first came into this family at the tender age of 2yrs old. I was told you were there with our mother. We did not see much of each other when we were younger. Because we were in different places. But it was always a great pleasure when you came home. As I grew older and then migrated we had a connection that could not be broken. I would especially miss our Sunday conversations and you famous voice message you would leave when you did not reach me.( this is your friendly neighborhood pest) with your famous sinister chuckle after. My family and I are grateful for the time we spent together in 2018, and we were looking forward visiting again. But there came Covid. You would be greatly missed, But you are in a more peaceful place, there is no more pain and sorrow. Continue to Sleep In Perfect Peace My Brother, Our Uncle and Friend...

Dad.

We had a bond that was special and one that I will treasure forever in my heart. You always supported my dreams and pushed me to be the best version of myself. Growing up The advise you’ve given me is what helped me to be the successful adult that I am and I am grateful. You instilled values and character that not only upheld the Greene family name but helped me to love and appreciate myself and who I am. Though your last days were hard to watch as your health declined I’m glad that I could be there to care for you and do as much as I could to help you feel comfortable in your last moments. Some of my favourite memories are coming to visit and having to plan my exit 2 hours in advance of the actual time because the moment I’d say I have to go you’d spark up a new conversation or ask for my help with something in an effort to make me stay longer. I love you dad. You will be missed on earth but forever treasured in my heart.

Dad, you prepared me for many things in life but unfortunately there was no way that you could prepare me for life without you or how to write your eulogy. You encouraged me to take up photography and writing - two gifts that have not only given me endless hours enjoyment but also allowed me to provide for my family. You were always supportive of my endeavours both emotionally and financially whether it was ice hockey or some other sport that I decided to embrace. You introduced me to automotive racing and through your enthusiasm you ignited a passion that I now share with your youngest grandchild who has become a rabid F1 and Lewis Hamilton fan.

You live within her forever as well as my other children. You encouraged Gage to take up photography and now has a passion for being behind the lens as well. This is a gift that you gave me that my son and I can share forever.

You taught me many lessons in life and while I’ll miss our daily chats I’ll remember them for the rest of my life and continue to instill those lessons and values in my children. The two weeks that you spent with my family have left a permanent positive impression on your grand daughters as well as myself and Laura. We have many happy memories such as bullet rice and photo ops of our cat Pepper. My heart has a hole in it because you are no longer on this Earth but among the angels and Mum watching over us. I promise that your legacy will be eternal as will my love for you.

Love,

Sean

A Tribute To Roy By Lady Soul

July 7, 2021
For those of us who knew him well and had the pleasure, privilege and good fortune of working with him and for him; listening to him; spending time with him and above all learning from him and his wise counsel, the man Fitzroy Greene affectionately known as Roy can be simply and also very appropriately describe as a Gem of a human. A man who stood tall and proud; a man with an indomitable spirit and strength of conviction and one who has served his people and community exceptionally well.

To me personally, Roy was all of the aforementioned and much, much more. He was a very dear and cherished friend; he was love personified, a man from whom I earnestly sought his companionship, his insights and his wealth of knowledge on almost any given subject. Simply put there were always lessons to be learned from him. We had many amicable conversations and he would always encouraged me to set goals and gave me valuable tips on how to attained them. I cannot honestly recall a dull or an unpleasant moment while being in his presence; this coupled with the fact that I had also found his remarkable flamboyant lifestyle and his calm demeanor attractive and irresistible to say the least.

Mr. Greene was one who had never ceased to teach, coach, inspire and motive me in some of what he himself practiced and believed to be the mantra of success for coping with stress and this life’s daily practical and effective principles.

To me he was one of my towers of strength and the one who taught me the fundamentals of radio and broadcasting while producing and hosting the weekly radio show called Odysseus on the then very popular community radio station known as CHRY105.FM. It was a show that was designed with a more mature audience in mind and as a sentimental romantic journey down memory lane with the best of R&B and Soul Music.

I had the distinguished honor of co-hosting the above mentioned show with him from the year 1993 -2014, and I must hasten to say that Roy Greene was truly a musicologist and one whose shoes I couldn't even begin to fit. Consequently, I had to developed my own unique style and while still under his tutelage I am proud to say that I became very good and successful at the craft of selecting the genre and was dubbed the title of Lady Soul by our many listeners.

Words are inadequate for me to express my sincere gratitude, time and space will not hereby permit me to continue talking about this legend in his own right; however, despite his fame, his many accolades and his adorable character, to me he was a father figure, a teacher, a community Stalwart, Gem, a tower of strength and a gentle soul who is and will continue to be sadly missed.

May his soul find rest and peace with our Most Honorable Ancestors and may his fond memory continue to live on with us right here on this side of reality. Ashe, Ashe, Ashe.

Pamela Waite aka Lady Soul.
