Radio Plays that Forrest produced

October 8, 2013

When Forrest and I were in college at NAU they had a playwriting competition every year. One year Forrest and I took a playwriting class together. He suggested we co-write a play together that he had an idea for. So we wrote a play called "To Sin Comes Crow." It won 3rd place. It's a black comedy (you know Forrest's dark sense of humor).

A month or so later he told me that he had talked to the Station Manager, Russ Hamnett, at KNAU (the NPR affiliate in Flagstaff, AZ where Forrest and I worked) and was given permission to produce the radio plays for the station and they would be aired. So Forrest produced and asked me to direct and cast the parts. For two of the plays ("To Sin Comes Crow" and "Here Kitty Kitty, Nice Kitty") Forrest even tried something innovative he had learned about which was placing two microphones about 5 feet apart and having the actors move about the room to simulate the blocking to make it more natural.

Forrest not only produced but did some of the voices.

These files were too long to upload to this site and I also wanted to make sure people could have the files to save if they wished. So, I have uploaded them to a link where you can download them if you want (you have to copy and paste the link your browser as it doesn't allow you to just click on it):

Forrest's Sister Obituary

September 30, 2013
Kathryn Ann Kathy Harbach Harbach, Kathryn Ann (Kathy) Spencer passed away from this life, surrounded by her loved ones, on April 20, 2013. She was born in Warren, Ohio, on Aug. 12, 1950, to Lee Dexter Spencer and Viola Chany Spencer. She came to Phoenix, AZ, with her family in March 1962. Kathy was a graduate of West High School, Phoenix, Class of 1968; and attended Phoenix College for two years. She taught Remedial Arithmetic in the Cartwright School District's Sunset School. Kathy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was caregiver to her husband who suffered a stroke more than sixteen years ago. Kathy had a strong sense of civic duty, too, and was active for many years in the block watch program sponsored by the Maryvale Revitilization Corp. She enjoyed family --proud of her children's and grandchildren' accomplishments. Baking was a special activity and participation in the County Fair exhibits for well-deserved ribbons was keenly anticipated. When she was a toddler, a friend of her father remarked: "Kathy knows no strangers". She greeted everyone with a smiling, welcoming face. Our hearts are broken. Kathy will, indeed, be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her husband, Gary W. Harbach; her son Christopher W. Harbach (daughter-in-law Melissa L.); her daughter Melissa K. Valdez (son-in-law Anthony R.); six adored grandchildren -Robert J., Benjamin A., William R. Valdez, and Annaliese C., Anorah R., Aurelia G. Muse-Harbach; her mother; her brother George E. Spencer (sister-in-law Norma D.); her brother Forrest G. Spencer; In-laws Mike & Debbie Valdez; and a host of extended family and friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, April 29, 2013, in the Avenidas Funeral Chapel, 522 E. Western Ave., Avondale. AZ 85323; tel. 623-925-1525; http://avenidasfuneralchapel.com Graveside Services followed by interment will be held at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, in Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W.
