An ode to the global pulse industry stalwart Hakan Bahceci

The Indian pulse industry, executive committee and members of the IPGA deeply regret the sudden passing of Hakan Bahceci, Founder & Chairman, Hakan Agro and former GPC President. The Indian Pulse trader community are in a state of utter shock and disbelief on receiving this news. A young, dynamic life gone too soon.

Hakan was a true thought leader, great visionary and voice of the global pulses industry. He was a great confidante and mentor of the IPGA and would whole heartedly support our endeavours including participating in The Pulses Conclave. His energetic presence in The Pulses Conclave will be sorely missed.

As President of the Global Pulses Confederation, one of Hakan’s many achievements was conceptualising and developing the idea of a year dedicated to recognizing the role of pulses in sustainable agriculture and healthy diets. It was through his determined efforts that UN General Assembly declared the year 2016 as The International Year of Pulses. 

While Hakan leaves a huge legacy behind for us to follow, the real tribute to his life would be to take forward his vision and implement his way of life of not only promoting production of pulses, but also increase consumption.

It’s a tremendous loss for all of us and Hakan will be truly and dearly missed by IPGA and the Indian Pulses industry.

We pray his Soul Rests in Peace. He will live in our heart forever.....

I lost a loved one yesterday.

Very few people had touched my life the way he did. He supported and trusted me a lot, he was a true visionary with skills to admire everytime you met him. He managed to remain humble despite a very successful business story that is his life. Respected by everyone that he meets, he was a problem solver. His employees loved him, he was my ex-boss, that's how I know.

I hate advertising about pain and misery online. His loss, though, is deeper than a lot of things I'd gone through in life. He isn't just anyone.

It'd always been good to know 'Hakan Abi is there', making a difference.

Shock is real and I haven't been out of it since yesterday morning. World looks bizarre, even by COVID-19 standards. It feels.. I don't know, meaningless.

Life doesn't always give you people like Hakan Abi, when it does, it's always good to embrace them. I regret fully not having spent more time with the man.

In the journey of life many people will walk in and out of your path, but just a few noble ones can make a footprint. They won’t let you face the tough times alone, they are there to make the hard times easier for you to build a long standing friendship, and there is no greater pain to lose these unforgettable friends.

To my great sorrow and disbelief, early on 26 May, 2020, I learned about the sudden and least expected demise of our brother, Hakan. Feeling the loss of our brother, incredibly I should express my deepest sympathy and grief over his sudden departure to the better world.

The deceased, Mr.Hakan, was a man of dignity, a principled gentleman sophisticated in business and highly committed to his words with profound sense of affection and affinity toward our nation proved times and again, attached to God in every single moment as the Holly Quran describes the real believers. Knowing his generous and faithful nature, I am sure that he will live in eternal peace and blessings in the world hereafter.

I would like to express my most heartfelt condolences over his sorrowful death and to share my most sincere sympathy with you and his beloved children Brandon, Karmen, Deha and Hakan on behalf of all my colleagues.

What can I say - after the receipt of such a terrible message?

Shocking news, I was paralyzed and I feel a deep emptiness caused by the Hakan´s sudden death - a man that I was able to only meet 3 times in my life but it always felt like meeting a brother, a man of honor, a devoted father, husband and brother, a man who behaved intercultural and beyond religious borders and a man with whom one could have interesting discussions, who presented an honest opinion to various topics and who was the oppositie to mainstream thinking.

Hakan was truly gifted with so many talents and he will stay logged in to my memories forever. He liked football as much as I do despite the fact our favourate teams were not the same....

It´s just very very sad that he left us so early while many counted on his presence for many more decades in future.
I truly wish all his family and friends sufficient strength to overcome this terrible loss and re-settle their lifes without him.

Unfortunately, the best persons leave this world too early.
Hardly could i find the right words to express my deepest condolences to Hakan Agro team. Mr.Hakan Bahçeci was a great man, a hard-worker, a true gentleman. He could achieve much but being in the top of grain & pulses market he was still humble, open-hearted and ready to support even a beginner.

I will always remember him as a source of boundless inspiration and an example of professionalism for young traders and brokers. You know, I remember his advises and his infinite patience when he was trying to clarify me the certain points about WBP quality in the period of my very first steps in agricommodity market, when i knew almost nothing. It is priceless.

Dear Hakan Agro family - Sudhakar, Murat, Mert, Melih and others - stay strong in these days. We are always ready to support. Be healthy and take care of yourselves and Mr.Hakan's family.
