My grandmother was one of the most heartfelt human beings I have ever been lucky enough to have in my life. Adopting my father was such a blessing, and she welcomed us in her family with open arms knowing that we were meant to be hers. I am the woman I am today because of her. Love you grandma, always. -Rayanna

Makechnie Fam, we adore you. There is literally no one else on earth like Heather and she will be so missed. We are so grateful for her warmth and love. And for birthing Ian. And opening her home to us Summer of 2013. If Ian, wasn't born, we would have never met. If Heather hadn't had let us into her own, we would have never fallen in love. We basically owe her everything we have -- and we will never forgot. Love you, Heather. Love you, Makechnie's. Xoxo, Kathleen, Taylor & Emma Lynch.

Heather was always so loving and accepting of me and mine... She came up to me one Sunday and told me that between the two of us, she loved my chronically 'too high' heels I would wear every Sunday...
She told me she loved the motto I would stand by with the young women including her beautiful grand daughter Cope: "Always keep your standards as high as your heels".
Acceptance sometimes is all a person needs in this world. Thank you Heather. You will be so completely missed... Godspeed as the Lord has a special place at his right hand for you. See you soon!
Love, Jessica Aughenbaugh

Heather was always thinking of others; even strangers. Once she came into the bookstore in Tilton while I was there and we were going through the box of antique photos. She found one in particular that was clear and well done and had the photographer information and date it was taken on the back. We were able to track down who the person in the photo was online. I thought that was pretty cool; but Heather went a step further. She tracked down a living relative and donated the photo to them. That is who Heather was. - Timothy Frantz

I was awed by Heather's light and joy. The world seems less for her passing. She was a strong and generous leader at the Twin Rivers Interfaith Food Pantry. It was always a pleasure to watch her work! I will miss her in that place and elsewhere.

I loved her smile and laugh. She had a way of making you smile just by being around her. She pushed herself not because she had too, because she wanted too. She had a glimmer in her eye when she learned something or was teaching someone something. Doing truck stock checks and laughing; to holding each other after a hard call or time in life. She didn't wear her heart on her sleeve, it was to big for that. She was her heart and cared unconditionally for everyone she touched. No one can take her place, but her legacy will live on and she will never be forgotten. She touched so may lives, what a marvelous legacy to gift to the world. All the "saves" All the times of being in the right place with the right tools, be it a book or monitor. She had a little mishap with the ambulance once in the very beginning, and I laughed and told her how at my beginning I very neatly put the ambulance in the wrong bay. Then I dented the door frame. I got a good ribbing, but laughing with Heather and sharing that moment made us better team members. My thoughts are with all of her loved ones and the hundreds of lives she touched and made all the difference for.

I want to extend my deepest sympathies to the entire Makechnie family and to Heather's vast circle of friends. She gave so much of herself for the benefit of others it's difficult to put into words the magnitude of her passing. Heather's smile, quick wit, and endless dedication will always be remembered. Imagine how much better our world can be be if we all adopt just one of Heather's strengths as our own.

To know the Makechnie Family is a privilege. I only met Heather a few times in relation to her kids working with us in the theatre at Proctor. As a family, Art and Heather embody the love and guidance so many of us strive to give and are an inspiration of joy and love. I send my personal consolations and my family's condolences, to Art and Gregor, to Ian, to Cope and Nelson and Page and Amy, and to all in the family who will miss Heather, but who will carry her spirit forth. God Bless you. Joan, George, and the Saunders children.

Mrs. M was the first person I met when I came to Proctor-she welcomed me like I was one of her own and treated me like family for the next four years. She was kind, patient, and gracious and funny. In particular I will always remember her kindness and compassion to my mother who was really struggling through a difficult divorce. Heather really changed my life and embodied the sense of family that Proctor was always about. Godspeed.

When I was thirteen I had the greatest fortune of meeting Heather's son Ian. He quickly became one of my best friends and remains so to this day, fourteen years later. His kind heart, love of life and laughter and true spirit are a direct reflection of Heather and what she taught all of us along the way. What an incredibly harsh loss for the family and community. I'm thinking of you Makechnie clan and sending so much love.

This is very sad for so many of us. What a wonderful and fun person we'll miss. She left many great memories. Allison and I remember her volunteering in New York and bringing a friend up to Yonkers for dinner with us. It made me want to do more good myself.

For two months every summer Heather Makechnie was our mother too. Whether cutting our hair with the Flowbee, bundling us into a Caravan en route to an arts and crafts fair, or simply providing the maternal warmth we homesick boys craved, she was there... and always, always smiling. I will forever remember how she cared for us and how the whole Makechnie clan welcomed us as family. My heart is with you all.

I was very privileged to work with Heather on a number of projects in the community. Her energy and passion for helping people was always an inspiration, and wonderfully contagious. But more than anything, I'll always remember how her smile could light up any room and any situation. She is already very missed!
