Hi Dad
I’ve been thinking a lot about you lately. This was the time of year we would see you and get to spend some quality time with you. Me and David were talking recently about all the trips you took him on camping and all the national parks you and the family visited. I never got to experience things like that growing up. I loved all the talks we used to have it made me feel like having a dad that I never had growing up. My dad passed when I was 2 and knowing you was very special to me to see how much you loved your family. I still remember Mr Wilson when grandpa came to visit after getting him he barked at grandpa and we laughed because he never barked. We use to sit next to you with his head on your lap. I hope you both found each other in heaven and he’s watching over you they way he took care of me. On this day I want to wish you a Happy Birthday and tell you I love you and miss you.

Every time we venture into the North Country, I think of Herb and Gross Point and it brings back warm memories!  Herb was a near neighbor of ours here in CT, but he was in his element and loved his summers in NY. As hams we always had lots to talk about and shared great times together.

Hi Dad. How fitting that I just got off of an 80 mile wild and scenic river canoe trip.  It is you who planted that desire in me.  And just how amazing that out of six people on this trip, four of us have Sportsmobiles, one of which is yours!  I thought of you a lot on this trip and wished we could have done it together.  We miss you!

Herb and Evie were near neighbors for several years here in CT. He was always willing to help the Ham Club on any project that needed doing. We also visited them many times at Gross Point on our annual trip to the North. They were always wonderful hosts and we loved their beautiful and peaceful place on Lake Clear. They must be there now enjoying the serenity that they deserved.

I remember Herb and Evie from many years as fellow ham radio operators in the Greater Norwalk Amateur Radio Club, GNARC. Many other members especially remember Herb's willingness to allow us to memorialize Evelyn's amateur radio call sign, N1EV, which is now the call sign of the GNARC Contest Club. N1EV has been used for every Amateur Radio Field Day operation and other special on the air events since 2000. I'm sure the call sign N1EV has been heard around the world on many occasions. Both are missed dearly.

Happy Birthday, Dad. I bought cookies in your honor from the Farmer's Market today. We love you and miss you; your stories, laugh and encouragement. We were thinking about you so much in our travels this summer. We sure enjoyed our visit at The Point with Shirley, Bobbie, Bernie and Betty and think you and Mom kind of enjoyed it, too. XO, Sarah

Some days it seems like yesterday, other days like so long ago. We miss you, Dad, in so many ways and for so many reasons. We've enjoyed taking you on hikes with us and leaving you in some of your very favorite places (Grand Canyon, Ramsey Canyon, Prescott AZ). Somehow, I still can't bring myself to go to Gross Point yet. It seems too final somehow. Perhaps next year. We love you! Love, Sarah

Thank you Shirley! I miss you Dad. Over the past year, I have thanked you many times for what I have learned from you and for the things I enjoy. But for the life of me, I still can't figure out all the wiring and gadgets in that Van! Peaceful travels, Love, Debbie.

I have known Herb since I was 12 yrs. old. That is a period of 65 yrs.!!!
Herb introduced us to RVing. We had so many wonderful times together.
We were the SOB's (some other brand) of RV on the many times we were out in the winter snows. Herb was always there to help someone who needed it. We will always have wonderful memories!!

Herb and Evie, then Barbara too have visited me everywhere I have lived since I moved from being back door neighbors when I went away to college years ago. The only requirement Herb had was that my driveway could fit the tralier:) I made sure it did. The visits were always a time to relax and catch up and never long enough. I will miss hearing and reading about his adventures, especially the ones he is on now. I can imagine his delight. God Bless You, Herb. Love always, Florence Grace Roberto

My wife Nancy and I had the good fortune to meet Herb and Barb at the Delorme map store in Maine several years ago.   We parked our Sportsmobile next to his.  As it happens we shared many common interests HAM, Adorondacks, Sportmobile, Folbot, traveling the USA.   He shared many stories of his travels and wrote great "newsletters".  Although we had to sell our Sportsmobile we had the opportunity to visit him at the Airstream on Gross Point a few times when camping in the area.   We regret not getting there this year.
We will, fondly remember him as we resume some travels of our own and certainly every time we see a camper van.

We were saddened to hear of his death but he left us a WBCCI eternal legacy. His helpulness and willingness to assist us was always appreciated. Meeting him when we joined WBCCI in about 1967 left a positive imprint. Evy and Herb were always busy and always were interesting but never too busy to talk to friends. The winter campouts were great and the dinners for 11 or 12 where every one was seated except Evy because she served it all. The times at Gross Point watching the chipmonks gorge themselves on peanuts they took out of her pocket. All these things, the laughs and the tears as life passed on. We were so lucky to know both of them. Herb alway was our exampie on how to live well, Love Frank and Nora Guros

I am the five-year-younger ‘kid cousin’ of Herb Gross who felt that he was my idol. He was a boy scout who played the trumpet and I did the same. Some of my wonderful early memories were at boy-scout camp together and of meeting him in New York where he treated me to my first, and many, Broadway shows and dinners.
Our families were very close even though they lived in Connecticut and we lived in New Jersey. He was the perennial camper in his luxurious Airstream trailer. I too loved travelling with my wife and our three sons, but we used motels and tailgated our meals. Many times he arranged his itinerary to visit us in Princeton. I am especially thankful that he made extended visits to see me in each of the last three years and we had precious time together.
Our thoughts are with his family - Jon and Sarah, Debbie and Tim, and David.            Cousin Harold and Hazel

We first met Herb and Evelyn via ham radio when we arrived in Saranac Lake. We enjoyed his company while he was at "Gross Point"
He enjoyed eating at the Red Fox and we regularly met him there for dinner on Friday evening. We corresponded regularly while he was on his annual trip to warmer weather. His regular e-mailed reports were a joy to read. We miss him but have wonderful memories.

Marianne and I share your sadness at the loss of your father. We very much enjoyed the visits of Herb and Evelyn to Long Lake where they shared with us and other friends their wonderful slides of Mexico where they loved to vacation. We miss them both. Herb lived and loved his good long life to the fullest and I'm sure was happy all the way.

I met Herb 3 years ago on Labor Day Weekend 2011, when he drove into a ditch by my daughter's cabin at Donaldson's camp. We became good friends over the next 3 years. During the summers we would go to dinners, lunches, musical concerts at Loon Lake and get togethers with many of his friends. He would visit me at my home between his travels, and also met my friends. My family, my friends, and I, are very fortunate to have had Herb come into our liives. We will miss him more
than words can express. Before I met Herb's family, I felt that I knew quite a bit about them. My sincere condolences go out to them at this
time. They were very lucky to have had him as a Father/Grandfather.

Herb was one great Amateur Friend. We met Herb long ago at our local 2 meter Club Meetings and many times later on "The Carrier Net (3.935)" and at Dinners in Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake. ...so many memories. We almost helped W1USE celebrate #93...

Every few months, I would look forward to an email from Herb. His emails very travel logs , little views into the time of year and wonderful personal thoughts he shared with us. His style of writing was impeccable and a joy to read. Hal and i loved visiting with him in his summer spot by the lake. We miss him. Our thoughts go to his family and friends. 73, Antje,N2OMA
