After a brave battle with frontotemporal dementia, Hoa DeAtley died on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in Prescott, Arizona. She was 63.
Hoa was born on March 5, 1953 in Ha Noi, Vietnam to Kiem and Lan Ngo. Amid Vietnam’s political turbulence and military conflict of that era, Hoa grew up in a loving family, with her brother Khiem and an extensive network of uncles and aunts, cousins and countless friends. Following the completion of high school, she left home to attend university in Fribourg, Switzerland, where she graduated with a degree in education.
She emigrated to the United States in 1975, joining her parents and brother who had by then moved to Dallas, Texas. Here in the States, she started her career, started her family, lived a full life. Hoa’s work was in banking … but her devotion was to her family, her hidden talent was in craft-making and her passion was Dallas sports. She spent hours upon hours at her kids’ activities. She excelled at creating tasteful pieces of home decor—from curtains and cross-stitch to Christmas wreaths. She would talk to anyone about the Cowboys and the Mavericks. In her later years, before her illness, she loved spending as much time as possible doting on her grandchildren.
Hoa is survived by her husband Dennis DeAtley; her son Danny DeAtley, daughter-in-law Bonnie DeAtley and their children Emma, Josh and Kate; her daughter Kimberly DeAtley; her mother Lan Ngo; her brother Khiem Ngo, sister-in-law Hien Ngo and their children Anthony and Andrew; as well as numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. She is preceded in death by her father Kiem.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Carrollton, Texas at 10AM on Saturday, November 19, with a reception to follow at the church (1705 E. Peters Colony Rd., Carrollton, TX 75007). In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (www.theaftd.org).

Leave a tributeHappy 33rd Anniversary my darling.
- first, i picked her at Paris en route together to Fribourg for her first trip to Europe for study ,
- next, we went together with wife and son, Hoa and Viêt pay visit to uncle Dong on a long and eventful Greyhound trip to FLA.

Mother are so special and even though it is unspoken, there is a profound sense of connection. I know that you were deeply loved by her and she was extremely proud to have you as her son. May God comfort you with a deep sense of peace and calmness in your soul. May he hold on to you tightly in this time of grief. Julie and John

I remember Sylvie Thieu Hoa from our Marie Curie high school days, always sweet, gentle and a kindly friend. We lost touch since we went our separate ways in college, but she is remembered with fondness always. The photos are a poignant reminder of lovely Thieu Hoa. Thank you for this opportunity to honor her memory. Simone Phuong Nguyen
Hugh and I , We were so shocked learning THoa passing , we are deeply saddened and would like to share your sorrow .,
Thoa and I were very goods friends. In our teen age years, she could have been my sister # 11 ( as I already have 10 sisters) we were almost the same age and THoa used to come to our place and sleep over . She shared our car ride to school, all the very memorable moments we spent together , at home , at school , I can never forget.
How can I forget her bubbly personality, always with a big smile on her face, never grumpy... At least, THoa and Dennis, and Kimberly, we appreciate your coming to Vancouver to visit us in 2003.... We had a very wonderful time together , we took you around and show off Vancouver .... When we visited you in Fort Worth , THoa and I had a very fun time too.
For sure, THoa will be dearly missed and she will be always in our hearts. Our prayer will be with you, Dennis and your family.

She was a loving, kind, cheerful person, always with a beautiful smile.
I remember one year she sent me a Christmas wreath that she made for me to put on my front door. That's one of so many wonderful memories and sweet gestures that show just how very thoughtful and caring she was. I also admire the courage and strength she had because despite all the ups and downs in her life, she always stayed positive and fearless.
My fond memories of and love for Hoa will always be in my heart and she'll be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.

I will always remember Hoa as a joyful, loving and kind lady; I can not remember ever seeing her being angry or hearing her saying an unkind word about anyone.
She was lifted on eagles' wings into heaven to be with God and whenever I will hear that hymn, I will remember her face, voice and smile.
I will miss her greatly.
I know that she is not alone in Heaven as she has taken a big piece of me with her. Our love lives in my and our children's hearts.
