Her Life

You valued life

December 15, 2014

Irene valued life tremendously. That is why she took a profession in the medical field. I remember as a nurse at Nkayi a certain man was critically ill infected with tuberculosis. He was so ill he couldn't swallow the medicine. Irene told me she knew if she didn't do anything he would die. So she crushed the pills into a powder and made a solution, then with a syringe she would squirt the drink into his mouth..until the drug was fully dispensed into the patient. The man came round three days later, overcame tuberculosis and lived. He is probably alive today. Thank you for giving. Thank you for valuing life...

Blessed are the peace makers for they shall be called the sons of God. When Bertha Nyathi Manzini gave birth to Irene little did she know she had brought a jewel into the earth. One who would be the lover of many, a life giver in the truest sense, a nurse of heart and quality. Intelligent, quiet, loving yet resolute, strong, formidably strong when it came to fighting for others life. She did her primary education at Sidhakeni Shool, High Shool at Shungu secondary school. Was loved by brother Murphy, was a water nymph who represented the school at galas and competitions. She passed her O' Levels with flying colours. Academics were an effortless affair for her. She enrolled to be a teacher at Hillside teachers College and dropped out to fulfil her call as mother; giving birth to Tapiwa Nyathi and Mercy Nyathi. She then resumed professional studies resorting to be a nurse instead. She shared with me that, her calling was with taking care of the sick, because she could do it in quietness. Teaching was for people like me she quipped, because I could neve keep my mouth shut. She passed her nursing career obtaining many awards and accolades. She later became a midwife nurse and also served the Nkayi district hospital for many years. She had been accepted do a PhD in pediatrics at Emory University in Atlanta, when she was taken ill. She then served in the Medical NGO sector first as a research nurse at Zichire and later as a PMTCT nurse at MSF. She was brilliance personified, a highly gifted nurse who throughout her career fought for life and helped many attain longevity through her stirling efforts to care, and guve life. She was a devout Christian a woman of real Bible faith who knew what it meant to stand on the word of God. She served teh Celebration Church and later moved to Christ Embassy Belverdere her home of fauth till her promotion to glory. She will forever be missed, cherished .....
