Dear Daddy, you know how much I loved you while you were alive! Kai, I remember one night Nwanyieze and I were in one bad traffic from work and were stuck in Ijesha for hours, you did not sleep, you were on the phone with us for hours and when we got to apple junction at 2am wow, we saw you waiting for us there! You were the most doting dad ever.... I am consoled because you are BETTER WITH JESUS! Away from all the pain! Your “second” last born loves you plenty! ! I promise to stop crying!

We all know it's hard we always think about our dear grandpa, even I do. I think and ask myself; what will grandpa do or how will grandpa feel if I do this while sometimes we ask ourselves am I disappointing grandpa? When there is a death of a loved one we always think that there would have been something we would have done in other for that person to still be alive. My comfort is knowing that he is in a better place. All the prayers we were sending guess it was a happy ending.

WE LOVE YOU GRANDPA

If we can stop death with our powers, we would have never allowed it rear up its ugly head to strike against us. I’m sorry about your dad’s death. Accept my sincere sympathy.

I am glad to have met and known this legend (Daddy).
He was indeed a teacher, mentor encourager and a Father.

During our Men Agenda Conference, he fully explained what fatherhood is about as well as managing one family in the right way and in the fear of God.

His inputs in Goshen group (our then small-group) cannot be underemphasised. He was a practical man who teaches what he practice.

Rest on in the Lord's bossom until we meet to part no more.

Daddy, personally, you were such an inspiration to me.
Your humble nature was amazing.
One of the words I took home 2 years ago from your teaching during the Men Agenda program in Word Assembly Light house was 'being Suportive'. You stood behind mummy throughout her times of family challenges. That was a take home for me, and It's worthy of emulation.
May you continue to find a resting place in God's bossom.
We love you

There could only be one dad one can have, and there’s no way you will not be missed.
We pray God’s comfort for the family at this time and always.
May the good Lord rest the soul of the departed in perfect peace.

Daddy was an epitome of goodness, an embodiment of humility. He treated me like we were age mates. He was indeed a friend to trust with no iota of doubt in his trustworthiness. I got endeared to him, even more, upon hearing directly from him how he started and finished his Law degree. Daddy was an inspiration not just to me alone but to all men, young and old, who came across him and his ardent wisdom, especially in his local church, Word Assembly (Light House), where he totally subjected himself to the tutelage of his erudite son, Pastor Ugo Otuonye. Well, I find solace in the famous statement of the apostle Paul in Phil 1: 21: ''For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain''.

Grandpa was a wonderful person. He was "paternal" and "devouted". These words captures and reminds me of his loving and fatherly nature, as well as his strong commitment to prayer most especially when I had Adanna.
It's clear that his significant presence and impact on my family keeps us going. It was sure difficult to lose him unexpectedly. However, he was "resilient" and "vibrant," his strength and liveliness, even in the face of aging was super. His unexpected passing must have been a shock, but it's admirable how we're all trying to move forward while honoring his memory. Till we see again Grandpa...

Happy 3rd Heavenly Birthday Grandpa! I'm sure you're having a blast over there, I've been thinking about you a lot lately through-out this week, and today marks the day you went to be with Your maker who you loved so much! I and Grandma where also just talking about you today. She said you really liked La-casera, I was dinking it today, it reminded her of you. Don't worry, Im taking really good care of her for you, can't wait to see you one day, when the time is right, We all miss you loads. My dad tries to be strong, but there's only so much he can deal with alone. I try my best to make sure he doesn't have to anyway. Really wish you where here, you'd have known what to do. You always did. But I'd just have to do what I can, God is helping me. Oh, I also can drive now. hahaha :) I don't know whether there would be cars in heaven, but I'm sure God can work something out, I must take you for a spin :) I'm also graduating in a year's time. I'll gist you about it when that day comes. Anyways, I have to go now. I love you Grandpapa! Save a seat for me, so when we eventually meet after I receive my crowns, we'd have the longest conversation. Eternity is more than enough time anyway :) P.S don't finish all the crackers before i get there. hahaha :) love you Grandpa!

His Story

Isaac Uwaoma Chidike (Formally Otuonye) was born on 14th December, 1944 into a humble Christian family of late Elder and late Mama Agwoma Elizabeth Otuonye Okoboro of Umueledi Village in Elu-Elu Old Umuahia Autonomous Community, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State. He is the last born in the family of six children.

However, it was not until early in 1962 that his uncle, HRH, late Eze Amara I, Barr. Y. C. Onwuchekwa (of blessed memory) brought him to Lagos and gave him a job in Lagos as an office assistant. In 1963 he got a new employment as a secretary. Armed with these credentials he was now poised to get good jobs in reputable organizations. His ambition was fulfilled as he got a new employment in 1964 as Secretary to the Managing Director of a Multinational organization having offices in Nigeria and Ghana.

The civil war which broke out in 1967 put a hold on the career run of Barr. Chidike, because he left Lagos in December, 1966 along with other people from the East.

He enlisted in the army during the civil war and served in the Intelligence Unit of the Biafran Army.

At the end of the civil war Barr. Chidike returned to Lagos and without much difficulties secured employment with the Nigerian Institute of Management in 1970. Between the periods 1970/1971 he registered for the advanced certificate examination of Pitman’s Institute, London and obtained the highest certificate of the institute in typing and shorthand.

He later got a new employment with Panalpina World Transport as Secretary to the Deputy Managing Director. In this Company he intensified his private studies and by the year 1972, he sat for and passed the G.C.E ‘A’ Level.

He was a member of Word Assembly Light House until his passing to Glory on the 4th of February, 2021. While he was with Word Assembly Light House, he totally submitted in humility to the ministry of his son who became his Pastor, ( a very rare act of humility). he was very active with the Men's fellowship of Word Assembly Light House and the Small Group Ministry, where he taught on numerous occasions.

CORE FAMILY VALUES / CHILDREN UPBRINGING

Barr. Chidike placed great premium on family values and the training of his children.

In these core areas Barr. Chidike had this to say:

1. There are three (3) incontrovertible factors or forces that would bring a change or shape the character of any man.

i) Hearing the word of God and acting on the word.

ii) Having respect for the position attained in society or community;

iii) Having respect for one’s age.

Any man who cannot be changed by any of these forces shall end up in shame. (Barr. Otuonye on family values and integrity)

2. The greatest and indeed the only enduring gift a man could bequeath to his children is good education.

In this our age or generation a man who inexcusably fails to give his children good education is a failure himself. (Barr. Otuonye on the importance of education of children).

Daddy we thank God for the life you lived. You brought your family up in the way of the Lord. May you find rest in the bosom of the Lord until we meet to part no more. Adieu Daddy!
