A year since your passing, Jack, but you are alive in all the people who loved you.

I grew up with Terra and Ruby, so I grew up always spending summers with Jack on the beach boardwalk and camping. He was so kind to me and I hope to live like him. Soaking up every ounce of life :)

I have known and interacted with Jack for many decades, mainly in his role at CDFG/CDFW working on sea otter and white shark interactions after Dan Miller moved on. I was always interested in the ecosystems that sea otters, white sharks, and other organisms were integral parts of, mainly for a course at MLML in Marine Ecology, but also another course - Population Biology. Jack was an affable and knowledgeable individual, well versed in the ecology of Monterey Bay. I was very sad to learn that he had passed away. But he has left behind a strong legacy of dedication to his work and to the marine ecosystems of Monterey Bay. He will be missed!

While I hadn't seen Jack in recent years, he is someone who I always think of fondly. He was pivotal in my dissertation research. I spent many hours with him. He was/is one of those people who are the "salt of the earth". He always had a smile on his face and is someone you always enjoyed spending time with!
