Jack W Lindsay, The Greatest Man,My Hero and my Daddy

May 24, 2016

Jack William Lindsay was born on January 29,1919 to John William Lindsay and Edna Autry Lindsay. He was the oldest of 4 children He had 2 brothers, Pat Edwin Lindsay and Bert Autry Lindsay and a little sister Elizabeth Ann Lindsay which died as little girl from an illness. He joined the United States Army serving directly under General George S Patton's Third Army and the invasion of Normandy! He married Ruth Evelyn Howell on August 3, 1942, they were married 60 years until her death August 12, 2002. They had a daughter Judy Christine Lindsay born May 28, 1956. He worked for AO Smith until they closed and then for Ford Motor Company in Houston,TX for 50 yrs. He was a lifetime member of the UAW where he was a Chairman of the Houston, TX division! He always said he was a Momma's boy because he was the oldest but he was alot like his Daddy, he looked so much like him and had many of his ways! He thought the world of his niece, Patricia Lindsay Phillips which helped him so much, his nephew Harold N Howell, Jr (Buster) who lived next door, his niece Zandra Ruth Anderson, he called her "Tex", his cousins Jim Anderson and George Carter, all being great men! In 1960, he moved from the First Ward in Houston to the house he loved at 701 Wendel in the Woodland Heights where he lived the rest of his life. Wendel Street was home to him and most of his family. His aunt Laura Anderson, nephew Buster Howell, brother and sister in law Neel and Helen Howell and brother and sister in law Paul and Dete Howell. Jack played baseball for Budweiser with his brother, Pat both were great ball players. Once a year, he looked forward to a reunion of his friends, The First Ward, where they all grew up together. He loved Saturdays, rain or shine there was a backyard party with music,BBQ,beer, food for the neighborhood pets and friends! He was the man all the neighbors trusted to keep a watch on their homes and keys where he could go in to make sure everything was in tact while they were gone. On, March 11,1975 his granddaughter Melissa Ann Pennington was born, he was a very proud PawPaw and on June 20,1979 his grandson Chad Allen Pennington came along. He tried to be like their Daddy since their Daddy wasn't there for them. Then on July 11, 1994, he was blessed with a great grandson Christophor Fuetes, which he thought hung the moon. My Daddy lived life to it's fullest, always putting others before himself and working hard his entire life. His stories would keep anyone amused, his memories were something I'll never forget. Family was very important and friends were like family, too! It crushed him when his best friend Willie passed away, they grew up together, went to school and both served under General George Patton's Third Army in WWII. Never a Saturday went by these two were not together on our backyard. I can honestly say that my Daddy was a good man, a proud veteran and loved his country. My parents were married 13 years before I was born and I was a Daddy's little girl. He coached me in softball and we won 5 years in a row The Houston Chronicle Softball Award in the Houston Texas Championship. This man never met a stranger and sometimes on Saturday I would come and there were people I didn't know in the backyard with him, even all the neighborhood pets would come by for a treat he would cook for them. When he passed away it broke my heart and spirit but his values and memories will never leave me. It is said God only takes the best but I guess I'm jealous, I miss him so much. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him, I'll be 60 years old on May 28th and I'd give anything to be able to spend it with him. I wish there were visiting hours in heaven because I miss his advice and time we spent together, Jack Lindsay was not only my Daddy he was my best friend and hero! I will never forget him and what a great man he was. Thank you, Daddy for everything you did for me, Missy and Chad and all the lifes you inspired! You will always be missed and never forgotten!
