Sing it out loud

March 8, 2014
I met Jake though my uncle. my uncle d introduced us because we had the same passion for music. The first day I met Jake I was stunned. It was either the tattoos or the attitude... probably both, that drew me into getting to know more about him and the music genre that we both love. Jake and I would talk about his history of performance and, what it really takes to get into the music business. My uncle told Jake that I was a singer. I think I've never seen his eyes shine the way they did ever since... Jake asked me to sing. I was so embarrassed and scared, and he asked me why. I told him that no one ever really believed in me or my music. I will always remember what he said to me, " you've got the talent and the heart, what you need to to is show that to everybody else they are wrong.". With that piece of advice that I carry with me to this day, I started to sing. He told me I sounded a bit like Courtney Love... I still laugh at that... The next time I had seen him I had a little journal I had written my own songs in. I sang him one I had titled "go ask Alice" and another I had titled "you are not alone"... he gave me some critique but over all he liked them. "you are not alone" was the last song I ever sang to Jake. And it's probably the most fitting. Every time I sing now I sing to Jake. It doesn't matter if I'm singing to myself or to a crowd. I sing to Jake because I know he's still listening. :)
