Jimmy, we had one hell of a party for you Friday night. You would have loved it. Your Nebraska family was there in spirit and your Helena family all showed up. Love you, Jimmy.

Jim always had a smile, a positive comment, or a helpful hand for everyone he knew. I remember high school football and track where he would out run most people. We will miss you.

I was very sorry to hear of Jim's death. He was a great guy, warm and funny, and I was always happy to see him. I will never forget the loving (and humorous) support he provided to a friend facing serious health issues. He was a special person.

Jim was a wonderful person to know, work with and have fun with. I've missed him at Stoel Rives and our periodic visits to the Veritable Quandary. The VQ will never be the same!!! Gary

Shocked and sad. I knew Jim C.for 30 years and never saw him without a big smile on his face. Always pleasant, he was a genuinely nice guy.

Jim, I will truly miss you. You are a fine attorney and my good friend and a friend to everyone you worked with. During our many years working before the PSC, I found you always willing to dig in and help to reach a positive solution and fair decision. So, take it easy and let the flat side drag...

Jim was the best brother-in-law anyone could ever ask for as well as a friend. He has such enthusiasm for people, life, adventures, music, and a great sense of humor. He would give you the last dollar he had or the shirt right off his back. He was there for anyone who needed help or just wanted to have a good time. We all loved him and he will be so missed. God bless you, Jimmy.

Jim was one of my oldest friends (Lyons boys & college fraternity brother) and what a friend! Road trips with Clyde were adventures that legends come from. Although he later denied being there, Jimmy was best man at my wedding -- see the picture to prove it! All I can say, "It must have been one great bachelor party!" As Harding said, Lord watch out, Clyde's on the way!

It's been a long time, and I've missed Jim throughout. I greatly valued his intelligence, his flash of wit always at the ready, and that great smile that everyone represented here recalls immediately. You went too early, Jim.

Jim Paine – Jim, my friend, you shared your special kindness, wisdom, wit and friendship with so many people over the years. You certainly did with me. In our many meetings through the years you always brought that impish grin that told us all you had things figured out. You did have them figured out, and at the heart of it all was your ultimate sense of fairness. God bless, my friend.

What can I say? James C. was definitely one of the most honorable and best friends I have ever had. His quick wit and smile will live on forever in my mind. My wife, Patty, and daughters Rachel and Colette also have warm and fond memories of Jim and his wonderful laugh! He will truly be missed!

Jimmy, I always enjoyed having your visits to the farm and the Paine family bonding. It was great to be with such a caring, upbeat, knowledgable BSer, who was always ready to have a good time. It was a real priviledge to have a friend and broth-in-law like you. We'll miss you Jimmy.  Randy

Many years ago trying (poorly) to step into the shoes of one George Hess, it would have been an impossible task without the friendship, guidance and understanding of Mr. Paine. A true friend. A warm, affable, truly wonderful person. I am lucky and blessed to have known him. You are missed and will be forever.

It was a stupendously fantastic day at the law firm when Jim poked his head in your office. Always the best grin, the best guy, the best friend. Always Paine.

I left Lyons in 1963, but I will never forget your great sense of humor and that "cute" innocent face. You will be missed by your family and friends.

Clyde was a unique individual. When I talked to him, the conversation always ended with me feeling better than when it started.  He could do that.  We kind of tried to grow up together in college and law school, but I don't think we ever really made it. I too will miss those "check in" calls. AEKDB

Jim,

I will always remember your wonderful spaghetti and meatballs. You always made sure I got some when you made it. It was as awesome a meal as you were a person. Rest in Peace!

Jim was so great to work with, a get it done kind of guy. I will miss him, his pragmatic approach and his willingness to go out and have a beer at the end of the day. Whoever takes over the 6377 extension has big shoes to fill!

I will remember Jim for his amazing good humor in trying times -- always a person of integrity, above the fray. He once lent me his music collection for a long drive to Sidney. What an extravaganza. Indy rock, electronica, pop, country, bluegrass, and, his fav, bayou & ragtime tunes: I thought, "Who is this guy, and is he really in his 60s?!" He had a heart of gold.

Jim had a great wit about him. I always enjoyed sitting in his office and having a "down to earth" visit. He will be missed. Jim is in a better place telling stories to a new group of friends and some old ones.

Jim will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He always had his sharp wit and great humor. Jim's death is a great loss felt by many. He was a great guy to work with and shoot the breeze with, no matter what the subject was. Rest in peace.

Jim was such a wonderful friend. I can't stop wanting to call him to talk about everything that's happened. He had been ill for months. It's good to know he's not in pain, but no comfort that he won't be calling to "check in." He was a remarkably good friend and I will miss him in ways words can't describe. Be well, old friend.

Hey, Jim -- We still think of you often and would vastly prefer sitting down for another beer to focusing on those of the past. Fred

June seems to come more frequently these days -- It looks like I'll be traveling through Alturas later this summer. You may recall that Alturas was the scene of one of our public hearings back in the day, and also of the impromptu golf game that got played in sports jackets (I'm pretty sure we took off our ties). That was a couple days after our reign over the Yreka shuffleboard table. I'm looking forward to our trip through the area later this summer, but it'll have to go some to beat that one that you, Bruce and I took back in the day. I think of you often, Jim --
