1810 March 9th George W. Boston was born in Huntington, Luzerne, Pennsylvania 1816 Wilhelmina, and one year old daughter Elizabeth, arrived ???? 1816 December 18th Christina “Christie” Robinson  Boston was born in Summit County Ohio 1830 David and Wilhelmina Bastian, and one year old daughter Elizabeth, arrived at the port of New York after sailing 57 days from Germany. They purchased 80 acres of timber land in Erie, Pennsylvania, but due to hard times were unable to pay for the land. After nine years they traveled by wagon to Naperville, Illinois, where they rented land for 1 1/2 years. Next they moved to Geneva, Kane County. They rented farms there until 1849. They moved to DeKalb County in that year and homesteaded the northwest quarter of section 24, in township 39, range row 5, now Pierce Township. The remained there the remainder of their lives. Wilhelmina survived David by 10 years. 1833 December 31st Caroline H. Gerlach was born in Erie, Pennsylvania 1833 March 9th, Christina ”Chrissie” Robinson married George William Boston in Portage County, Ohio 1834 January 30th, James B. Boston was born in Pennsylvania. 1838 November 20, Akron, Summit County Ohio 1850 Census George and Christina were living in Lake, Allen, Indiana 1850 John Boston was born in Lake, Allen Indiana 1850 David Gerlach, wife Wilhelmina and children Caroline H. (17), Dolly (20), Samuel (14), Andrew (10), Rakeed (12) Gerlach resided in Squaw Grove Township in DeKalb Co. Illinois. 1854 James B. Boston Married Caroline H. Gerlach, Afton township, De Kalb County Illinois (no marriage license), 1860 George W. Boston and family resided in Clinton Township, DeKalb Co. Illinois. 1860 Census – DeKalb County Illinois - James Boston age 26, Farm Laborer,  personal Property Value $300 - Spouse Caroline Boston age 26, born Ohio,  housekeeper Andrew Boston age 5, born Illinois Frances age 3 born Illinois, George, age 1, born Illinois 1861 April 1st, the Civil war began with the attack on Fort Sumter South Carolina. 1861 Sometime around this date Sarah J. Robinson Married H. T. Bellamy, who may have died before October 13, of 1863??? 1862 January 1st James Boston enlisted for a period of three years in Somonauk, Summit County Illinois. Company F of the 53rd Illinois Regiment of the US Infantry. The Fifty-third Infantry Illinois Volunteers was organized at Ottawa, Illinois, in the winter of 1861-'62, by Colonel W.H.W. Cushman. On the 27th of February, 1862, the 53rd was ordered to Chicago to complete its organization, and to assist in guarding the Confederate prisoners captured at Donelson and confined there. 1862 January and February muster rolls record Pvt. Boston was present, however the company muster rolls for March and April indicate that he was present however that he was sent to a Hospital Boat (where). 1862 May and June Company muster roll of that year state that Pvt. Boston was absent and sick. Presumably still aboard a hospital boat. Apparently James had recovered from his illness by June 30 and was with the Company during July and August of 1862 1862 March 23rd the Regiment was ordered to St. Louis, and from St. Louis to Savannah. Tenn. April 6th, was ordered to Shiloh, but for want of transportation did not move until afternoon of the 7th. Were assigned to First Brigade, Fourth Division, Brigadier General J.G. Lauman commanding Brigade, Brigadier General S. A. Hurlbut commanding Division, in which Brigade and Division the Regiment served until the close of the war. 1862 the Regiment was engaged in the siege of Corinth, and for meritorious conduct on the skirmish line were furnished with new Springfield rifles. Marched to Grand Junction, LaGrange, Holly Springs. Miss., and Memphis. Tenn., arriving there July 21, 1862. The weather having been very hot, the troops had suffered very much from heat and scarcity of water on the march. Pvt. Boston was still with Company F when on September 3, Colonel Cushman took leave of the Regiment, having resigned, leaving the regiment in command of Captain McClanahan, who had been acting as a field officer since the evacuation of Corinth. 1862 September 6, moved toward Bolivar. Tenn., arriving there on the 13th. October 1, moved toward LaGrange, but meeting a large rebel force, moved back to Boilvar. Acting Adjutant C. R. May was taken prisoner by the rebel cavalry. 1862 October 4, moved toward Hatchie River, and on the 5th engaged four times their number of the enemy, who were retreating from Corinth. 1862 While crossing Davis' Bridge, on the Hatchie, a regiment from another State was forced back through our lines, but the Fifty-third moved steadily forward, holding the bridge and road for over two hours, until other troops could be crossed and placed in position. Loss in this battle, sixteen killed and forty-nine wounded. The Regiment here assisted in running a section of artillery, a Missouri Battery, up the bluff by hand, placing it within fifty yards of the enemy's line, and supported it while it did splendid work. The Regiment was complimented by General Hurlbut for its work here. 1862 October 5th, James was wounded in the battle of Hatchie with a musket ball in the abdomen. 1862 The 53rd returned to Bolivar October 8th. October 15th, Lieutenant Colonel Earl took command of the Regiment. 1862 Charles Bellamy was born in DeKalb County, Ill 1962 October 13, DeKalb County, Illinois, Marriages = Mrs. Sarah J Bellamy (age 24) married William W. Page 1862 March and April, the Company muster roll indicates private Boston was present but also states he was sent to a hospital boat. 1862 November and December the company muster roll for November and December of the same year indicates that Corporal Boston was absent and adds that he was wounded at Metamora Oct. 5 and that he was left in the hospital at Bolivar Tennessee on November 3, 1862. 1862 James was transported to the US General Hospital, Benton Barracks St. Louis, Missouri. Listed as 5’ 11 ½” Tall, light complexion, gray eyes, dark hair 1863 January and February, the muster roll indicates that Corporal Boston was absent and in the hospital at Bolivar since Oct. 5 1862 1863 March 12, Brigadier General Eugene A. Carr Commanding of Head Quarters St. Louis District of Missouri, wrote to the Commander of Company F of the 53rd Illinois Infantry stating that James was a patient in Benton Barracks and requesting the military history of James 1863 Furlough May 10th through 25th of May 1863 to return to DeKalb County Illinois. 1863 May 21st James wrote to A. B. Goon, Provost Marshall 2nd Congressional district of Illinois, requesting an appointment under the Deputy Provost Marshal or enrolling officer. The Provost Marshal is the officer in the armed forces who is in charge of the military police (sometimes called the provost). There may be a Provost Marshal serving at many levels of the hierarchy and he may also be the public safety officer of a military installation, responsible for the provision of fire, gate security, and ambulance services as well as law enforcement. A Provost Marshal may also be in charge of the execution of punishments (Wikipedia).        1863 approx. July 5th Caroline was placed on duty by Dr. I. H. Grove Surgeon in charge and subsequently appointed as nurse at Benton Barracks from Sept. 8 1863 by President James Yeatman of the Western Sanitary Commission and approved by Medical director Miles Dec. 15, 1863 and served until April 6, 1864 (Pension records Archive 132 1864 April 6th, James was discharged, unfit for military service or for invalid corps 1864 July 1st, James filed paperwork for a Homestead claim at the Brownville NE Land Office, Homestead Certificate No 344 – Application 392. Homesteaded NE ¼ Section 31, T1N, R12E Pawnee County, Nebraska July 1st, 1864 (Brownville Nebraska Land Office), Lived on the land beginning 1st of August 1864. 1865 April 9th General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse and the Civil war officially ended. 1865 July 10th, the Official Muster out Roll for the 53rd Illinois Infantry, list James Boston of Company F as being 28 years of age and indicate he had been discharged by reason of wounds received in battle Nov. 1863 (XX), they also indicate the he was last paid on February 28, 1862 (???) 1870 Census, James (36) and Caroline (36) lived in South Fork Ne. with children, Samuel (15), George (11), Frances (13), Hattie (5), and Ellsworth (9). 1870 Census, George W. (60) and wife Christina (54) Boston lived in South Fork Ne. with son John (20) and Loyd Crane (14 - laborer) 1871 Homestead Patent proved up and made final 1880, April 13, Caroline purchased 40 acres in SE ¼ , SW ¼, 33, T1N, R12E 1880 Census, George W. (70), Christina (65) lived in South Fork Ne. with Granddaughter Laura Simpson (12). 1880 Census, James B. (46) and Caroline (46) lived in South Fork Ne. with George (21), Ellsworth (19), Hattie (15) and Clarence (8). 1880 Non-Population Census 1880 United States Federal Census South Fork Pawnee County, NE Sarah J. Page 1881 April 9th George W Boston purchased 80 acres in E 1/2, SW 1/4, 18, T1N, R12E from John Edwards 1882 March 14th, Caroline and James soled80 acres in SE ¼ , SW ¼, 33, T1N, R12E 1882 April 15th, Ellsworth Boston purchased Lots 3 & 4, block 12 Hazels addition Pawnee City from David Sr. and George Hazels. 1882 May 5th, Christina B. Robinson Boston passed away in South Fork Precinct, Pawnee County Ne. 1882 November 15th, George W. Boston (age 72) remarried Sarah J. Robinson (Christina’s sister) in Brownville Ne. 1883, March 1st, Sarah J. and George W Boston purchased 74 rods & 18 3/4 ft, lying W of SE corner of W 1/2, SW 1/4 section 23, T2N, R11E from there turning north 133 ft. thence West 62 feet to the ROW of RI Railroad thence in a South easterly direction along the ROW of Said RR ROW to the south line of said section 23 thence East 44 feet to the place of beginning from Henry L. Atkins. 1884, April 5th Sarah J. and George W. Boston sold the same property back to Henry L. Atkins 1885 February 7th James Boston purchased  40 acres in SE 1/4, NE 1/4, 31, T1N, R12E from John Fires and wife 1885 Non-Population Census, George W (75), wife Sarah (47 – born in Ohio) lived at South Fork Precinct, Pawnee County Ne. with Henry (24 – Step-son or Nephew, born in Ill.) and wife Heather or Heattie (45 – stepdaughter, born in Ill.) Bellmay. 1885 Non-Population Census no record for James () and Caroline () 1886 September 16th, Ellsworth Boston sold Lots 3 & 4, block 12 Hazels addition Pawnee City to E. H. Linn 1888 February 22nd Sarah J. and George W. Boston Sold 80 acres in E 1/2, SW 1/4, 18, T1N, R12E to Meary S. and William H Edwards 1890 March 5th, George W. Boston (Age 80) passed away in South Fork Precinct, Pawnee City Ne. 1890 James Boston (56) was listed as living in Pawnee City, Pawnee County NE. in the 1890 Partial Census of Civil War Survivors. 1892 July 9th, Sarah J. Boston (Widowed) sold Lots 7 & 8, Block 17, DuBois to Frederick Koester. 1892 Caroline first files for Invalid Pension as a Civil War Nurse 1893 April 13th a Sheriff’s Deed –“ James and Croline Boston and 1st National Bank Pawnee City were defendants, 1st National Bank of Pawnee City recovered a judgement against James and Caroline Boston on a mortgage for the sum of $593.13 with interest of 10% annunm, and Plantif John C. David recovered a judgement against James and Caroline for upon a mortgage for $2886.90 and costs $17.88.” 1893 September 16th “James and Caroline defaulted did not pay anything so court ordered and Sheriff Joseph G. Sloan did on September 16, 1893 auction mortgaged property to highest bidder  William B. Jones for $4000.00.” This was the entire Homestead of 160 acres, NE 1/4, 31, T1N, R12E. 1893-94 James (60), Caroline (60) moved the family to Smith Center Kansas. James and Caroline had a son named Samuel. Samuel married late in life to Sarah Isabelle (Koontz) Joy. Sarah had previously been married to Joy and had two children O. C. and Clifford Joy. 1895 Samuel Boston (40) was living alone in Smith Center Kansas. 1895 James (61) and Caroline (61) were living in Smith Center Kansas with their children:  Nora (25 – born in Nebraska), C.R. (23 – born in Nebraska), Ethel (3 – born in Nebraska), and Marie (4 months – born in Kansas). 1900 Samuel Boston (age 45) was living with his brother-in-law, Orl Heale (Orlo Hale 41) and Sister-in-law Francis E. Heale (Hale 43). 1900 John Boston (50 – born in Indiana) was living in Smith Center with his wife Cecelia (47 – born in Pennsylvania) and son Frank (7 – born in Minnesota). 1900 Sarah Boston (61 - dressmaker, widow) lived in Lincoln Nebraska with Nephew R. A. Billings (50 – Born in Indiana) 1905 Samuel Boston (50) and wife Sarah Isabelle (Koontz) Joy Boston (55) were living in a separate household with sons O.C. (26) and Clifford (15) Joy. 1905 Carrie Buswell (age 19) was living with James (71) and Caroline (71). 1905 George Orren Boston (45) and wife Sarah (Barklow) Snyder Boston (55) and sons Jay (21), our Grandfather, Onie (18), and Jessie Boston (16) in a separate household. 1905 Clarence Ralston Boston (33), wife Marie (35) and children Ethel (13), Marie or Maree (10), Harry (8), Garrett (8), and Helma (2) in a separate household. 1910 United States Federal Census Galesburg, Ward 4, Knox Illinois, Sarah J. Boston was living with her son Lee W. Bellamy and his wife Dorothy and grandson Paul Bellamy age 5 1910 James (76) and Caroline (76) lived with son Clarence (38). 1915 James (81) and Caroline (81) lived with Sarah J. Boston (age 75) sister of Christina Robinson Boston and the second wife of George W. Boston and their son Clarence (age 43). 1917 Property Ownership maps for Smith County Kansas show James Boston Family owned acres in 1920 James (86) and Caroline (86) lived with their son Clarence (age 48), Aunt Sarah J. Boston (80), Sister of Christina Robinson Boston and 2nd wife of George W. Boston, and Frances Hale (62) Clarence’s Sister, Smith Center Kansas. 1920 Samuel Boston (55) lived with his wife (70) in Smith Center Kansas. 1922 February 3rd, Caroline passed away in Smith County KS. 1922 August 9th Sarah J. Boston passed away in Smith County KS. 1924 October 2nd James passed away in Smith County KS. 1925 Samuel (70) and Sarah Isabelle (75) were living alone in Smith Center Kansas. 1925 Clarence (83 - Divorced) lived with his daughters Marie (age 30 - married), Florene (7) and son Robert Boston (1). 1925 December 14th, Sarah Isabelle (Koontz) Joy Boston passed away 1930 Samuel (75) was living alone in Smith Center Kansas. 1932 John Boston passed away in Smith Center KS. 1933 Clarence Ralston, son of James and Caroline passed away in Smith Center Kansas 1940 Samuel Boston was 85 and living with A. Clyde Joy and Carrie Joy. 1944Samuel Boston passed away in Smith Center Kansas
