His Life

James Alexander Hill a.k.a. “Jimmy” was born June 16, 1947, to Alex Hill and Mary Graham Hill of Hayneville, AL. Both parents preceded him in death in 1982. He moved to the Calhoun Community at an early age. He was the sixth child (baby boy) of eight children born to Mary Graham Hill.

He joined the church at an early age and he was a 1967 graduate of The Calhoun School, Calhoun, AL. Mr. Hill later moved to Mississippi where he attended Mississippi Technical College and studied Auto Body and Fender classes. He later moved to Philadelphia, PA, where he resided several years working as an Auto Body and Fender worker/painter. Mr. Hill later moved to Union Springs, AL, where he worked as a body and fender and minor mechanic worker at Singleton Body Shop. In July 1988, he married Margaret Harris Hill and moved to Midway, AL and they were married for a perioid of ten years. In September 1990, Mr. Hill began working for the State of Alabama Department of Transportation in Seale, Al and remained there until hill illness/retirement in April 2010. In 1998, he moved to Hurtsboro, AL and later to Hatchechubbee until he departed this life on February 9, 2015 in Midtown Medical Center, Columbus, GA.


Mr. Hill leaves to cherish his memories, six sisters: one devoted maternal sister, Apostle Catherine D. Hill (caregiver), five paternal sisters, Jeanette Hill, Hayneville, AL, Christine McClammy, Macintosh, AL, Annie Beulah (Frank) McCall, Hayneville, AL, Lizzie Mae Sheffield, Indianapolis, IN and Diane Coleman, Montgomery, AL; three maternal brothers, Gleen Graham, Montgomery, AL, Tony McCall and Arthur (Rosa) McCall, Jr., all of Philadelphia, PA; two paternal brothers, Barnette (Loretta) Hill, Hayneville, AL and Billy Ray (Miriam) Hill, Montgomery, AL; one step-mother, Beulah Hill, Hayneville, AL; one step-daughter, LaSonya Smith; two step-grandchildren, Kristian Smith and Rick Smith, Jr.; ex-wife, Margaret Hill; one beloved God son, Denaryo Green; three sisters-in-law, Albertine McCall, Pleasantville, NJ, Ingrid Graham, Biloxi, MS and Sandra McCall, Elizabeth City, NC; one devoted neighbor, Betty Smith; numerous caring neighbors, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.

The staff of Carter Funeral Home is honored to have served the family of the late Mr. James Alexander Hill a.k.a. "Jimmy" and join the family in an extreme expression of gratitude for the care and support extended to them during the illness and demise of their precious loved one.
