Jed was born in 1964 residing with his mother and father in Port Washington. Jed was the youngest of his two siblings, Amy Appleby and Shaun Appleby. Both his parents, Roger Appleby and Dorothy Duncan later divorced while Jed was only 7 years old. Later graduated from Schreiber High School in 1982. Throughout High School Jed made his impact on people's lives whether it was the positivity he shared or the bands he played in.
