His Life

Jeff Holmes was born on October 12, 1938 to the late Willie Henry Holmes and Eula Bell Knolton Holmes. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Nicole Monique Holmes, wife Barbara Jones Holmes, three brothers, Willie Lester Holmes, James Wilson Holmes and Johnny Pierce Holmes; two sisters, Virginia Holmes Green and Jane (Polly) Holmes Hill.  

  Many people knew Jeff as “Rock” and as PaPa to the grandchildren. He resided in Manchester, Georgia and was a member of Mt. Sinai CME Church, where he served on the Deacon Board. Jeff retired from Rubbermaid formerly Goody, Inc. for over 40 years of faithful service. He continued working not wanting to be idle, with the Meriwether County School System, WFDR Radio Station where he brought Gospel music to many listeners. Jeff passion was for music and his family. He was associated with several community organizations, such as the Empty Stocking Fund. He was known to offer and help anyone whom he thought he could assist in any way.  

  Jeff is survived by his children; Rico C. (& Cloteria) Holmes of Lithonia, GA; Felix M. (& Kathy) Holmes of Fayetteville, GA; Darrell (& Pamela) Brown, & Aunreco Brown of Manchester, GA; Tara Michelle (& Jeffrey Richardson) Jones of Columbus, GA, and Brian (& Tywanda) Jones of Manchester, GA. One sister, Eula Pearl (& Keith) Francis of Brooklyn, NY and one aunt, Juanita Trice of Atlanta, GA. He has sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He is also survived by previous wife and friend Fern M. Tigner-Holmes of Manchester, GA. Three sisters-in-law, Thelma Holmes, Bennie M. Holmes and Evelyn Patterson all of Columbus, GA, along with nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
