Many of us owe a debt of gratitude to Jeffery in many ways. I admired him for his courage and directness. Many people are happy to show a kind face and pleasant smile in your presence, but something else when your back is turned. Jeffery was wysiwyg and I will always respect him for that. Even if you hoped not to find yourself in a Christian heaven Jeffery, Rest in Peace.

It wasn't until I went to Missoula Film Festival in '98 that I spent a great deal of time talking with Jeffrey. He was very much a larger than life character and was always trying to help students into the industry. It was my first visit to the States and he excelled at introducing me to everyone he thought I should know. He loved sharing his wisdom and once met was never forgotten.

I had the great chance to be Jeffery's helper when he came to our Festival in 1995. I'll always remember when I occasionnally tried to wake him up during screenings. "Never mind, if I sleep, the film's not worth an Award", he'd say. I'll miss his long, funny yearly letters giving news from him and the whole family (including pets). All our condolences, on behalf of Bird & Nature Festival.

Jeffrey was a man who demanded the highest standards of himself - and everyone involved with him at every level. Many years ago he and I did a show on Radio Bristol together and it was such fun - he could argue learnedly in and out of every subject. And he laughed at my jokes, which is always good! I shall miss him and his highly individual generosity very much indeed.
