Just a few months ago, after more than twenty years, Jerry and myself met coincidentally in the community in Manchester where he has his home and farm. What was most interesting was that neither of us readily recognized each other! However, I recognized the voice and that noticable calm composure throughout the conversation. That caused me to inquire of him wether he ever taught at another school that I taught after departing from Balaclava High. His reply was that he never taught there, but that he taught at BSS. Since my assumption was now proven, I revealed my identity to which he asserted that he had been trying to remind himself of my name, because he had the very feeling that we'd taught together at some school before! Time had certainly made lots of physical changes to our persons, adding little grey hairs and wrinkles, as well as reducing muscles and youthful facial features; Hence the inability to instantly recognize!
He even demonstarted that he still had the skill and ability to carry out his familiar mechanic work by assisting with changing some worn brake pads on my vehicle, the day.
He showed no sign of being ill in any shape or form. He even fetched some products from his farm for me the day. It was he who advised me of the passing of another colleague and friend of ours from BSS, Juno Gayle, whose funeral was scheduled for that very weekend.
We parted that day vowing to keep in touch, now that we knew where he and his family resided. Never in dreams thought I would be here now writing about my friend in the past tense, so quickly! But what is man? We're here but for a short time, the Good Book says!
When i heard that he had a freak accident which landed him in the hospital, I considered his injuries temporary and that I would have seen him the next time I visted the area (which was scheduled for the very day he passed!). Was just about moving out from my home in St. Ann when I got the shocking news.... First it was disbelief, followed by confusion, then naturally tears for my friend when the reality kicked in!
Now I can only say Condolence to his beloved wife, Holly, and kids, and to the rest of his and his extended family and friends!
Sleep well my friend!... See you in the morning!
