I came to know Dr.Jim as teacher of the Christian counseling class in ECC, AD. Though it was a brief period, he left few long lasting inspirations- His availability amidst fragile health, basing his subject completely on Scripture, the way he would link Gods word to every principle. The love for his patients and the ways in which his workplace became his mission field. God bless the family

Dr. Jim ---- We dared each other! Against the judgement of your better half, we went carpet shopping across the pond. I'll remember you all my days. I will remember your faithfulness to your creator, you love of your spouse, and your compassion for all human kind.  Knowing you was a blessing, and an inspiration.

How to remember a friend, a guide, a counselor, a therapist that was so much to me. I met Dr. Collins at a very difficult threshold in my life upon moving to the UAE and also going through some personal changes. He was the person who held the light for me along the way.
I spoke to him just a few weeks before his passing, I feel he was an Angel sent to me when I needed one so much.

Dr Jim was an angel among us. His compassion, caring, support, belief and understanding of the pain of others helped so many to heal, including me. I am so blessed to have known him. Abu Dhabi grieves the loss of a remarkable man.
Nancy, May you and family be comforted knowing that Jim touched so many and enriched their paths.

Earth has given up one of her best, to make heaven with the Father an even greater place! Gil and I were blessed to know and receive the friendship and hospitality Jim and Nancy offered to us. Thank you and rest in peace, Jim, until we meet again.

Dr.. Jim was a dear and close friend. There were so many times we would chat over lunch or drop in to say hello. He was a valued friend, coworker with the Family Ministries at ECC, and we talked over many 'things' about life and work. Thank you Nancy for your generous and loving role in our friendship. I miss you both, but will for sure be with you eternally!

Dr. Jim, was at one time my very best friend. He was the only person who helped me when I really needed help. I shall have Jim in my heart and mind forever. My wish is for his family to be comforted in this time of loss. Truly a man.

This talented man was the most critical human factor in our lives, period. He helped us escape the bondage of past abuse and pain and enabled us to lead healthy lives with love, hope, faith, and endurance in the face of many challenges of all kinds that we would never have survived without his guidance. You will indeed be forever missed. Rest with Christ you faithful servant. My friend.

Dr. Jim became my father in the faith during one of the counseling classes he taught her at ECC in Abu Dhabi, he welcomed me into his heart and his life, Dr.jIM was a mighty man of faith and power, he taught not only from the bible or tex book, he taught us by the way he lived his life and loved his wife. May God comfort you family and friends until you see him again in heaven.

I co-taught the counseling class with Dr. Jim in Fall 2011 and also corresponded during Spring 2012 when the class continued in his absence. Jim was a patient, affable, wise counselor who practiced his faith in the giving sessions he had with folks. I benefited by his openness and prayers while together we helped build a closing piece for him in Abu Dhabi. May the Lord bless his family.

I read once that what matters most to a person when they leave this world is that they know they were loved. Though I am saddened by our loss of Dr. Jim, the most patient and loving of men, it is comforting to me to know that he is and shall always be loved by many, including me.

Jim and Khalid

October 24, 2013

I have thought so many times of Jim and Nancy's kindness to me and my husband Khalid. But I especially want to highlight Jim's wonderful effect on Khalid as regards his habituation to cigarettes. Khalid wanted so much to quite smoking but was very addicted and unable to sustain ceasation. JIm's encouragement had a profound effect on Khalid. Though I can not prove cause and effect, I can report that on June 12th 2012 Khalid stopped smoking! He has been a "non-smoker" since June 12 2012 with some minor relapses :) Most important his attitude towards smoking changed tremendously. He really wants to be a non-smoker. Although there have been several influences to help Khalid stop smoking, I personally believe that Jim's kindness and prayers were a powerful factor.

We miss you Jim and look forward to seeing you again in the next life.

Lots of love, Dana

"Stop...... Office...."   Those two harsh words can send shivers up a person's spine at the immigration desk on Kish Island.

Jim and I shared an affection (addiction?) for oriental carpets.  One weekend, we took a trip to Kish Island, which was having a carpet exhibition.  We were traveling with a friend, who  happens to have the same name as me (Richard Miller).  Add to that, the humorous fact that the UAE's immigration authorities had no idea how to classify Jim's occupation, so his visa had the title "priest" on it.

So what does the  Iranian border guard do  when they see two Richard Millers and a priest?  Naturally - they investigate.  "Stop...... Office........ This way....."  (uh oh......)

Jim was the eldest among us, so they questioned him first. "Why are you in Iran?"   Answer ---- "we're looking for carpets....."   Question:   "What do you do?"  Jim's  calm answer"  "I talk to people about their problems ---- would you like to talk?"  (no, he did not want to).  Hearing this, the authorities  stamped our passports, kicked us out of "the office,"  and we went on our way.

Jim - thank you for giving your time.  Thank you for your friendship, and thank you for the memories.

Our First Meeting

November 4, 2012

Our first meeting was in the bible bookstore here at ECC in Abu Dhabi, I was volunterring on night in the bookstore when Dr. Jim came in and wanted to check on the book order he had placed for his upcoming counseling class.  I introduced myself to him and he shook my hand, i told him i was joing the class myself but had not gotten around to signing up, Dr. Jim smiled and I felt led to share with him right then and there about the dreams i had been having for the last few months, I shared with my dreams which included military soliders coming home from the Iraq and Afganistan wars, and how broken these soliders were.  Dr. Jim told me that that was the Lord speaking to me, and that Gods hand was upon me, and that God would equiped me for what he had called me to do.  We had an instant spiritual connection. Dr. Jim had me share my testimony in our class as well as others and then one day in class i felt led by the holy spirit to ask Dr. Jim if he would be my father in faith, he answered yes, and we agreed to spend time together. I did not get the time I wanted with him but I know he has prayed for me, him and Nancy both and for this I am eternally grateful.  God Bless you family may you live on a million and one memories of your dear loved one, he was truly a gift to us all.
Forever Thankful for my time with Dr. Jim
