Mr. Hamil was born November 13, 1942 in Tallassee, Alabama to the late Tommie Sue Dunlap Williamson. From an early age he was raised by the man he called “Daddy”, the late Millard Williamson.

He attended Heard County High School, where he excelled at basketball and was a star player for one of Heard High’s state playoff teams. After graduating, he entered the US Air Force, and served his country with honor. He later earned an associate degree from Kerr Business College.

He worked for Ford Motor Company for about nine years. He then became a sales and finance manager, and later owned his own business selling cars. He also drove tractor-trailers for Bunzl Distribution for many years.

Mr. Jimmy was very active in the community and maintained friendships with many people he met during his life. He was always willing to help his fellow man in times of need. He also coached Tee-ball at the County Recreation Department and became a mentor to many young people he taught.

Later in life he was elected to the city council for the City of Franklin. He served in that capacity for multiple terms, and became a voice for the people of Franklin as he made decisions that benefited his fellow citizens.

A Christian by faith, he attended numerous churches in the Heard County area of every denomination. He read his Bible daily and became a lay minister, always willing to preach when someone needed a speaker on a moment’s notice.

Family was at the center of his life. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly, including his furry friends, the many pets he took in over the years. Taking the family on vacations gave him great joy. He especially enjoyed the Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge. He also loved to go out to eat, and was willing to drive hours away to enjoy a hearty meal with family and friends.

Survivors include: his loving wife, Patsy Hamil of Roanoke; two daughters: Cynthia Mathews (Bobby) and Jodie Putzek (Chris) both of Franklin; one son, Timmy Hamil (Tina) of Franklin; five grandchildren: Amy Holliday (Lee), T. J. Hamil (Courtney), Criss Langston, Cori Putzek, and Kyli Putzek; five great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Morgan Hamil.
