Thinking of my mother on her birthday. I often think of her visits to me in Massachusetts and how we always went to the coast, because we both love the ocean and the feeling of being on the coast. At some point in the 1980s, she and I went to Martha's Vineyard together. We rented bicycles and went all over. She was pretty fearless in biking around, even where there was sand all over the road.

Happy Birthday, Mom. Thinking of you even more this week and especially today. We had a funny gift tradition in our family -- we quite often gave a card that was unsigned, so it could be used again. We weren't that cheap, it was more like a funny thing we shared. But I still have many lovely cards from Joan, signed by her in her elegant handwriting. Often depicting cats (we all love cats).

Joan married my brother Rex when I was about 16. I remember how beautiful she was and how kind she always was to our family. I will remember her with great fondness. Both Joan and Rex had great intellectual gifts, but they were always so very down-to-earth and approachable. I love the pictures you have collected here on this site - thank you for sharing.

I am a colleague of Anna and though I never met Joan I believe the greatest tribute to her I can give is to say she raised a wonderful person in her daughter Anna and I am truly fortunate to call her my colleague and more importantly a friend. Anna you and yours are in my thoughts and prayers.

As a colleague of Anna, I can say your mother's curiosity and intellect lives on through you. Her plethora of knowledge is inspiring. Your desire to continue learning yourself and wanting to share that knowledge with others is contagious and will forever make your mother proud.

You are in our thoughts at SCHS.
