Hard to believe it has been a year. We sure do miss our buddy Joel. He was such a good friend! Still think of the comfort he supplied when Mike had his stroke. We look forward to the resurrection of this fine man. Till then we will do our best to imitate the faith he showed, and the good example he set.

It really hurts deeply when you lose a dear friend you have known for such
a long time. When i reflect on our friendship over the years i will always
remember that Joel was a kind, fun loving brother, who as so many others
have said, he was a friend for life. Over the years we still kept in touch with
one another even sharing a meal recently with another long spiritual brother.
So just a few words Sherry to let you know i will miss Joel dearly. So in behalf
of Charles and Cynthia we extend condolences to family.

Sherry and family,

I'm the spiritial brother and neighbor across the street from Jiel and his wife Sherry. In tribute to Joel I seen the whole hearted love Joel had for his wife Sherry, and I also seen him as a gental giant who was very much in love and protective of his wife. He was kind enough to help me a couple of times when I needed his help. I also seen in him the joy and love he had to be a part of Jehovah's organization, and he joyfully look forward to the many eternal blessing in Jehovah's righteous new world. I also pray that Jehovah's loving kindness, peace and comfort be continue with his wife Sherry and the rest of his faimly.

Sherry, it’s hard to imagine the pain and hurt you are going through from the death of your beloved husband Joel and our beloved brother Joel. Sherry, you and Joel have always been to us like a fleshy family and your family and ours for many years have shared a close relationship with Joel and you have made it easy to do for us. Sherry, we love you and Joel and we look very soon with you to see him again. Now, Sherry don’t worry about Joel because he invested in the best guaranteed insurance that money can’t buy and Joel took his policy with him and that’s the resurrection insurance. So when God calls Joel will answer. Sherry you are in our prayers to stay firm and strong, and for Nikki and Neal to keep drawing close to Jehovah. Sherry, we Love you all and are here for you.

Love and Comfort from our hearts to yours,
Peggy and Danny

Years ago I was at the house Sherry and your sister Carolyn was there. Butch had came in left out to fill up your gas tank then came back to get his vehicle and fill it up. Then the laughs, love and stories started to flood the room how Butch always pumped your gas and how he rescued your sister early in the morning when her car stopped. I began to realize he was the protector of his family and your sisters. I remember another time when Butch said the prayer for a meal we were about to share with a sister who had lost her husband. He asked Jehovah to massage her heart in these trying times. That was over 10 yrs ago I never forgot that expression. I was so moved by it and all the times Butch and Charles guided, counseled, cared for my family and me. So I ask consistently Jehovah massage you and your families hearts. See you in paradise Gentle Giant

Words cannot nearly describe how much Garrison aka Butch will be missed! He was such a giving brother, a fine shepherd, one of which displayed tender care for his flock. He was there for you no matter what! Some of the best service days on Sundays , included hearing the laughs and jokes between Garrison and Sherry. His intense love for you Sherry was evident and he will always be a great example for how brothers should care for their wives. So I will continue to pray that you and every one he knows and loves continue to cherish all the great moments that were shared with Butch, until we see him again! Just a little while longer... Love Tiffany

I'm sorry for your loss My Lovely Sister.
Butch and I work together at Ford Motor in the stamping department. He was my Guardian Shepherd. He always looked out for me. When he retired he said "you better hurry up and come out of here Trudy so you can pioneer." That's what I'm going to do now. He was a loving Brother and friend, he will be missed. Trudy Eastman

I've probably known Brother Garrison as long as I've been alive. Always kind, always helpful, always noticing, always working. Last thing he helped me with was getting an estimate for my car that got rear-ended. Last time I saw him was probably at a meeting, acknowledging everyone that walked by. He always seemed very attentive to people. I'm sure he has, but I've never heard him raise his voice, ha. He was so calm, mellow, and patient. Going door to door with him was nice, even though I wasn't necessarily very talkative. But he didn't mind the quietness, and he wasn't the kind to talk your ear off. When I did talk though, he listened. I can tell Joel was a wonderful husband, and a great dad... we'll see him soon.

Sherry,
My heart is full and I can’t find the words to express how much Butch meant to me. He was truly a loving shepherd and genuinely cared about us the sheep. Just seeing his smiling face greeting me at the hall, made me smile and feel secure. I loved his laugh. He had a way that drew u to him. The 4 of us spent many joyous times together and I look forward to spending good times again together in a perfect world, with perfect bodies....forever. I miss u wilma

Bro. and Sis. Garrison were among the first ones I worked with in the ministry after moving to the Coolidge territory. We were working with the Circuit Overseer and his wife that day, and I will never forget it not because It was snowing, and cold that day and we managed to finish the territory but because the Garrison’s offered me a ride back to the Kingdom Hall with them. And then there was another time when Bro Garrison and Bro Chatman did a shepherding call on me and my brother. When I saw those two big and tall brothers walking together up my driveway I though to myself this cannot be good for me. Was I ever wrong because once they came inside and started talking I felt and heard his genuine love and concern for me and my brother. He will truly be missed; until I see him again when ‘... death ...nor pain be anymore...’

Joel always showed his self sacrificing love. He continuously did for others without reservation. My family could count on Joel during our times of need, whether spiritual or otherwise. Joel was always loving, kind and willing to help. We are comforted to know that we have the resurrection hope and look forward to seeing Joel again.

Brother Garrison was a true shepherd, brother and friend. He was approachable, always willing to help and if he couldn't help he would give you a name and number of someone who could. He has helped Nyles and I on several occasions. I believe he was a good husband and father as well, I recall seeing him interacting with Sherry at the meetings, in the ministry or anywhere, they were always happy and playful with each other. Looking so forward to seeing him again when ALL IS NEW! Love you Sherry and family!

To Sherry and family: may Jehovah give you the strength to cope with your loss. At John 11:11, Jesus compared death to being asleep. Based off John 5:28-29, we surely look forward to a time when Joel will be resurrected. May Jehovah continue to be with the Garrison family. Love Marcus and Michelle Taylor (Coolidge congregation).

I'm really going to miss Joel. Our two families go back over 40 years. He was my spiritual big brother and the definition of a gentle giant. There is some comfort in knowing that his faithful course will give me a chance to see him again, but for now it hurts. Sherry, Neal, and Nikki ... you guys are always in my prayers and always family. I love you guys. Looking forward to us all being together again.

So hard a time this is. I met this brother around 8 years ago and was always greeted with a smile from him. So encouraging is the thought that if I seen him 10 times in a year, 9 were not at meetings, but putting forth effort to do whatever was needed by either of our Kingdom Halls. Snow storm, rainstorm, or sunshine this brother made himself available. I will miss his love for Jehovah’s house but I will remember Jehovah’s promise every time I think of him. May Jehovah bless his family not only to cope now but to be on hand shortly after our dear brothers hears the voice of our King.

Joel was my spiritual brother, fellow elder, and friend! He was the type of person who proved his love for those around him. He would do anything for anyone in need, so Jehovah cared for him the same way. He dearly loved Sherry, and it was evident in everything he said and did. He will be sorely missed until we see him again!!

Happy Birthday Butch we love you and we miss you ❤️
his Life
Joel Neil Garrison was born on July 9, 1949 in Buffalo New York.  He was the third eldest of six children born to the union of Napolian and Olivia Garrison.  From a little boy Joel was affectionately known as Butch.  He was educated in the Buffalo Public School System where he received a vocational diploma in upholstery from Emerson Vocational High School.
Joel lost his mother in 1969 right before being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany. When returning home, he gained a wonderful bonus mom who loved him as her own Hennie Garrison plus two stepbrothers Allen and David Jackson.  He started his career at Ford Motor Company in Buffalo, New York.  A few years later he moved to Detroit where he continued in the automotive industry until retirement. Detroit is where he met and married his wife Sherry, on April 12, 1979.  To this union was born two children, Joel II and Kristian.
Joel dedicated his life to Jehovah God and symbolized it by water baptism on July 25, 1987. He later had the privilege of serving as an Elder in various congregations for over 20 years. He worked hard in his ministry, the congregation and in life.
He was a good husband, father, and friend. He loved his family and worked hard to provide for them. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life. He loved working on cars with his brother Earl, listening to Jazz music, collecting model cars and spending time with friends and family.
Joel Garrison passed away on April 5, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents Napolian and Olivia Garrison; four brothers, Bobbie Davis Sr., Earl Garrison,  Myron Garrison, and  Allen Jackson; Joel’s memory will forever be cherished by: his loving and devoted wife of 41 years Sherry Garrison; children Joel Garrison II, Kristian Garrison; Mother, Hennie Garrison; three sisters Gale (Gary) Edwards, Julia Williams, and Yvonne Garrison; Mother-in-law who he loved as his own, Henrietta Quarles; Three sister in-laws  who he adopted as his sisters, Bettye (Lee) Porter, Carolyn Quarles- Jackson, Lisa Quarles (Gary) ; three brother in-laws, Ervin (Antoinette) Daniels, Jerome (Wanda) Quarles, Eric (Denise) Quarles; A very special cousin who was more like a brother Alfred Garrison, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and his spiritual family.
