Funeral services for John Greany III will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Davie Lawrence, Rev. Russell White and Rev. Amos Tallbear officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the El Reno Cemetery. A wake will be held at the Concho Community Center on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. Services are under direction of Wilson Funeral Home.
John passed away at home on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013. He was born at the naval base in San Diego, Calif., on Feb. 26, 1946, to John Greany Jr. and Floy (Etter) Greany. He graduated from high school in Stephan, S.D. He attended Haskell College in Lawrence, Kan., and Tulsa Junior College. Later he received training from the Canadian Valley Vo-Tech.
John was very proud to serve his country in the USAF and the USMC from 1965 to November of 1968. He did two tours in Vietnam from 1967-68. John married Janetta Johnson in El Reno on April 11, 1977. John spent most of his career in law enforcement. He was a plumber's helper, and later retired from the Canadian County Courthouse after 10 years as a maintenance man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Greany Jr. and Floy (Etter) Blackburn; in-laws, Darrel and Vivian Johnson; and a brother, Joe C. Greany.
He is survived by his wife, Janetta Greany of the home; daughters, Michelle Greany, Feleischia Greany and Jana Greany, all of El Reno; sons, John Greany IV of Fort Worth, Texas, Dustin Greany of Waltham, Mass., and Joseph Greany and wife, Ashley Greany of Waco, Texas; sisters, Georgia Edgmon and husband, Jerry of Fallon, Nev., Susan Greany Velasquez of Ignacio, Colo., Clara Greany of El Reno, Patricia Dyer White of El Reno, Brenda Greany Velasquez of Aztec, N.M., Lou Lerma of Oklahoma City, Caroline Levi of Oklahoma City, Marie Lorentz of Mountain View and Ruth Maldonado of El Reno; brothers, Cliff "Butch" Greany of Ignacio, Colo., Randy Greany of Yukon, Bruce Dyer, Lance Dyer o El Reno and Herschel Kaulity of Encino, Calif. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
