This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Jonathan Stainback, 45 years old.  Gone too soon.  We will remember him forever.

Jonathan Wayne Stainback, 45 years old, of Nags Head, NC, was born November 23, 1973 and passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 15, 2018.  Jonathan was also known to friends and family as Johnny and Jon.  Jonathan grew up living in Colonial Heights, VA. He resided in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and in the Florida Keys for years.  Jonathan always seemed to make it back to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where he called home.

Jonathan was a charismatic, adventurous, free spirit.  He loved the beach, surfing and fishing.  Most of all, Jonathan loved spending time with his family and a great group of friends that will miss him dearly.  He was also quite the artist, often times making personalized birthday cards and sketches.

Jonathan will be lovingly remembered by his father, C.D. Stainback, of Colonial Heights, VA; his sister, Angel Stainback Avery and her husband, Chris Avery, adored nephew and niece, Casey and Abbey Avery, of Chesterfield, VA; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.  Jonathan was preceded in death by his mother, Eva "Judy" Stainback; grandparents, William B. Stainback and Florence Mae Winfield Stainback, Edgar L. Talbott, Jr. and Teeco Dalton Talbott.

Jonathan was part of the team at Tortugas' Lie in Nags Head, NC, where he will be sadly missed.

"and think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched...for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much"

I remember Jon as a student in my Math class. He was always trying to do his best. He definitely will be missed. His passing comes as a huge surprise, to be taken so young. Condolences to his family.

When I think of Johnny - I see him as a beautiful toddler. He was so energetic and so beautiful. When sunlight was upon him - he shone!! His hair had a reddish sheen and he smiled brilliantly. No matter how many years - this is how he always lives in my mind. May the heavens cradle him gently.

My heart goes out to Jonathan’s OBX friends, that were very much like his family. Nate, thanks for being such a good friend to him. Lindsey, aka Lieutenant, thanks for your caring friendship & “bossing him around”, he needed that, I’m sure. Friends at Tortugas’ Lie and more, I know all of you must be missing him and I am sorry for your loss as well.❤

His Life
January 28, 2019

Jonathan was a very active child and young man.  He played team baseball and football, stunt rode his BMX bike doing jumps and tricks, he ollied on a skateboard and enjoyed surfing.  There were lots of injuries along the way, but not much seemed to stop him.  He was always driven and determined, with little to no fear.  He liked to draw and jam out on the electric guitar to Ozzy and Metallica, with the amp blasting!

Jonathan loved to have a good time with his friends.  He was very charming. He had a huge heart and never had a problem telling his friends and family that he loved them, you knewbecause he would wrap his arms around you and tell you with a big old kiss to the forehead!  He was crazy about his niece and nephew, Abbey and Casey, and they were equally as crazy about their "Uncle Johnny".

Jonathan lived and experienced life! He didn’t let fears or obstacles hold him back.

Missing so much!  Random, goofy text messages, calls just to say “I love you”, his “aaahh-HA” laugh and singing...even the singing.  Happy Birthday in heaven Johnny!
