His Life

See you later from your Son

January 20, 2015

Dad,

I learned a lot from you. Most importantly, I know I am a better father because of you.

I love you and I will miss you, you stubborn pain in the butt. ;)

I hope you're somewhere maybe sailing or just by the ocean, smelling the sea air and enjoying the sun on your face. Most importantly I hope you are happy.

I'll see you again someday, hopefully not too soon, no offense, but I want to see these girls grow up. :)

P.S. Patriots, Superbowl,... pull some strings.

Sailing

January 19, 2015

Steve and his wife, in their younger days, owned a 24 foot O'Day sailboat for a very short time. Before he was married, he was very passionate about sailing. After hearing a horror story from a friend and fellow sailor, and with a daughter on the way, the boat was sold. He always dreamed of getting another one once the kids were grown, but never got the chance.

Skiing

January 19, 2015

Steve was an excellent skier. He spent many winters skiing nearly every mountain in Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire. He even skied Tuckermans Ravine, which as a skier in the Northeast, is a badge or honor. Of course, he did this when ski's were not much more than planks of wood strapped to your feet.

Here's a link to a video of skiers trying their hand at Tuckerman today

Retirement

January 19, 2015

After spending most of his adult life living in our house in Shrewsbury, MA he and his wife retired to a farm in Berlin, MA in 2008. It has energy efficient geothermal heat and solar generated energy. When most would retire to a beach in Florida, they spent their days, with their daughter; bailing hay, raising chickens, boarding horses, growing Christmas trees and harvesting vegetables. His wife and daughter continue to run the farm, but it's a little different now.

His Career

January 19, 2015

Steve spent most of his career (20+ years) working as a Mechanical Engineer in the Nuclear Power industry. He was well respected in the industry and authored and co-authored several publications.

Steve obtained a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. He was also a licensed Professional Engineer.

Our Son

January 19, 2015

Jeffrey Stephen Roberts was born in Morristown, NJ. He gave his dad a pleasant surprise by arriving on the same day, July 15, that his dad arrived in this world. The two shared the same birthday for 42 years. This will be the first birthday where they don't call each other and say happy birthday at the same time.

Jeff followed in his fathers footsteps pretty closely. He attended the University of Rhode Island like his father and two uncles, Bruce and Dave. Joined the same fraternity as his father and his two uncles and even studied engineering as his father did.

Jeff is married to a beautiful woman, Heidi, and has two beautiful little princesses 6 1/2 and 7 1/2 who are spoiled rotten by their Grandparents.

Our First Child

January 19, 2015

Susan Jean Roberts was born in Hackensack, NJ in the cold month of November. She was a beautiful baby and grew into a beautiful woman. She loves animals of all kinds and often rescues cats, nurses them back to health and finds them a good home.

Sue attended the Rhode Island School of Design and after 5 years achieved her degree in Architecture. She was a licensed architect for several years but found her true calling in helping animals. She successfully completed her studies in Veternary Technology.

She cares for the animals on the farm that Steve and his wife Pat retired to years ago. She also designed and general contracted the remarkable house they built on the farm land.

Our Wedding

January 19, 2015

In the small town of Adams, MA, Steve and I were married in  the St. Stanislaus Parish, the Polish church on April 19, 1969. We had a reception at the MidWay Restaurant on Curran Highway and drove off to our honeymoon in Miami, Florida.
