It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. John Paul "Junior Pope" Odonwodo. Known warmly to many as Junior Pope, he transitioned on April 10, 2024. Born on May 7, 1980 in Bamenda Cameroon, John Paul (named after Pope John Paul II) truly illuminated the lives of those around him during his forty-four fruitful years.

John Paul was an award-winning thespian, a testament to his immense talent and relentless dedication. This achievement, among others, evidenced his hard work and relentless drive. His craft not only earned him accolades but also the admiration and respect of many. A brilliant star in his own right, John Paul’s contributions to the arts will forever be cherished and celebrated.

A firm believer in the power of love, he imparted life lessons that will continue to resonate with all of us. His simple yet profound mantra "family is everything" encapsulated his approach to life and influenced all his interactions. This rare quality endeared him to many, extending beyond his Swag Nation family, and has imprinted an indelible mark of love and compassion in our hearts. (Who does that?)

Guided by an unshakeable faith in God, John Paul was proud of being a Christian despite his public career. He loved the Lord and taught his boys to love the Lord, always bringing them with him to church. He was often found on his knees at the Blessed sacrament; trials brought him nearer to the Cross.
In all of this, John Paul fulfilled the purposes of God before God called him home.

John Paul will be sincerely missed by his beloved wife and three children, his parents and seven siblings, and an abundance of friends and admirers. His lively and engaging presence brought light and energy to every room he entered. John Paul's personality was truly one of a kind - bubbly, warm, witty, and unconditionally loving. His irresistible charisma and radiant smile captivated the hearts of all he encountered, and his memory continues to give us hope.

As we mourn the loss of a remarkable man, we find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on in the lives he touched. Through his infectious laughter, unwavering love, and timeless wisdom, John Paul "Junior Pope" Obumneme Odonwodo will forever be fondly remembered. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

98 CLASSICS FAMILY TRIBUTE TO OUR OWN JAY PEE.

Wednesday the 10th of April, 2024 is a day that will forever evoke sad feelings for us. 'Twas the day we lost our brother, lifelong classmate and dear friend to the cold hands of death in the murky depths of a watery realm. John Paul Obumneme Odonwodo aka Jnr Pope, the Emperor of the Swag nation, you left us too soon in the prime of your youth. The Nigerian movie industry was privileged to witness your brilliance in front of the camera, warming into the hearts and homes of millions of fans who enjoyed your dexterity for almost two decades. However, we the 98 Classics were even more privileged to witness your growth and development as a charismatic student of the Federal Government College Okigwe over three decades ago.

Jay Pee, it goes without saying that you'll be greatly missed: Your bad boy image on set, your infectious laughter, your booming trademark "who does that?" What about your commitment as a loving husband to Jennifer and an amazing father to your three princes of the Swag nation? It hurts to say goodbye in the prime of your youth but we take solace in the fact that you left behind a legacy that will speak for generations to come. We are in a period of mourning but choose to remain strong in the face of tragedy. In the words of Robert Nesta Marley, "You don't know how strong you are until being strong is the only option you've got left."

Auf wiedersehen, Jnr Pope....God willing we will surely meet again, dear friend.

Dear JP,
I grew up knowing you as the tall and strong yet cheerful cousin in the family. In every family ceremony, the party has not started untill you arrive. You gave us iconic one liners like "family is everything " or "one love" with cool hand gestures to go with.

You had nick names for everyone. You would call me "mmamma oyoyo" whenever we saw each other. You taught my brother and I our unique handshakes which I teach to my little cousins till date.

You were a protective cousin. You strongly advised me against going into the modelling industry because you didn't think it was safe for a young girl at the time.

You were a star and you knew it. You carried yourself like one and I witness your fans drooling over you where ever you went. Opening Instagram will not be the same again as I always looked forward to watching your funny contents.

You were a family oriented man. You took extremely care of your parents and your children. It's no wonder you always say family is everything. You weren't just saying it. You were showing it.

Your absence has been heavily felt since you left. Although you're not here to say "family is everything", you have instilled those words to us that we can never forget it in a hurry.

One love.
Mmachi Paul-Onyia.

Dear JohnPaul,

The day the news of your passing came to light, darkness enveloped our entire household. I was at your cousin’s celebrating the birth of a newborn, and life, however mysterious it is, allowed death to take you so prematurely. There is no question about how much of a good man you were. The entire nation is mourning the loss of a star who shone so brightly. The sun and the moon are still struggling for a place in the sky, as the earth still weeps bitterly.

I'm deeply saddened by the news of JP’s passing. Growing up in the same neighborhood, I remember his charisma and the joy he brought into our lives. It's heartbreaking to lose someone who brought so much life and energy to everyone around him.

His presence on screen was unforgettable, but even more so was his warmth and kindness offstage.

Rest in peace, bro. May God comfort your parents and family.

With tears running down my face, I write to bid you farewell jp love as I call you. The loss of you is something that can never be recovered. I remember those days at Trans Ekulu. You became my friend before everyother person from your family. Such a very good, humble and reputable family you came from.

JP, when you got admission into the the university of Nigeria, i remember you were the first person I ever visited in the university as a growing girl. After showing me around, I dreamed of going to the university too. I concluded that unec was the school for me just cos you were there. During my first year you protected me and cared for me like a friend / sister. Obi agbawam!..

Your love radiates everywhere you go. Everywhere you go, you shon just like the star you were. I had prayed it was a movie that night. Can I ever get over your death? Growing up was fun cos you made us happy even while sad. You brought water for me so I won't have to go and fetch.

JP you have accomplished many good things but your death is one of the most painful thing I have encountered in my life...my heart is heavy. Your absence will definitely leave a void that can never be filled. your memory will forever live in my heart.your jokes and laughter still fresh in my head.

Life unfolds many faces that confronts and combats the inner emotions of man. For the first time a death of a young star caused everyone that knew him sickness for more than one week.
In all, we praise God for what he can do and impact on human race. John Paul the actor, you left when the ovation was highest like your Pope mentor John Paul II. May the Angels open the Gates of Heaven for your rest. May the Lord comfort your family and friends till we meet again. You are remembered in all the masses I celebrate on the Altar. Amen
April 25
Nothing, absolutely nothing can in a snap fill the void or heal the deep pain created by the demise of a loved one!

A shining star you were, Jp. A great man indeed! In your short time on earth, with your talents, you made so much impact in our hearts and in a twinkle of an eye, you left! Who does that?
JP, know that your loved ones, and the world at large misses you!

To the Odonwodo family; George Eliot once said that, "Our dead is never dead to us until we have forgotten them". I urge you to be consoled and comforted by keeping JP's memories alive in your hearts by maintaining the great virtues he strongly upheld while he lived.

I pray that the Lord strengthen you all in this moment of grief and give you the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May his beautiful soul rest in the Lord, Amen!

Jee nke oma, JP.

April 25
My heart is heavy as I write this tribute to you JP as I fondly call you. My hope was renewed when I heard you are alive. I thanked God Almighty for giving you a second chance to live. When I heard again you couldn't make it and have passed away that same night. I prayed to God for a miracle because I believed you deserve to live not just for you but for your lovely family, especially your beautiful wife and your kids. The out pour of love you showered on them is enormous. You are a good husband and true definition of a good father to your kids. Johnpaul will life ever be beautiful without you. You are a light that radiates every where you go. You are loved and cherished by your family. Each day I remember the good memories while growing up with you in Trans Ekulu tears rolls down my cheeks. I can't question God because he is the giver of life. He gives and he takes. Your sudden demise JP is still a shock to me. It is well. God in his infinite mercy will console your family for this irreplaceable loss. Please know that you are now an angel watching over your beloved wife and kids.
