Thank You to All of His Friends!

September 21, 2010

I can't tell you how happy Gail and I were to see all of Karl's friends and the time we spent with you on Sunday, August 29th at the home of Jim and Martha! It was a perfect summer day, with many close friends coming together to celebrate a life of the man we all loved.  The support we have had throughout all of this and the renewed connections we have made have helped mom and I tremendously.

I know dad was happy about the coming together of so many old friends to celebrate his life, as the next day there was freshly fallen snow on Mount Daily, and I remembered that dad always left town for Mexico when the snow started to fly.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Windy and Gail

Growing up with the Griffins

August 26, 2010

My name is Rick Chew, the younger brother of Ralph Chew.  I was sadden to hear of Karl's passing.  We grew up with Kenny and Karl in Highland Park and rode dirt bikes in Elephant Hills, the Mojave desert, behind Occidental College, during the construction of the 134 freeway, Eagle Rock and Avenue 52.  Those were the days.  Karl was always giving me advice on life and how to ride a motorcycle.  Karl would leave California and spend his time in Aspen during the winter and visit Mexico during the Summer.  He would pal with the George's and then all of a sudden appear back in Los Angeles.  He built his Baja bug in my parent's back yard, cutting off the top and short circuiting the wires while doing so.  He always had a smile on his face and did not show any signs of stress and when something did go wrong, his usual response was, 'bummer'.  I envied his life style which reflected living on the edge.  I lost my brother in 1980, then Kenny past in the 90's and now, Karl.  The good guys are gone but will never be forgotten.
