I recall I and Dovi were foundation students of University of Lagos; Dovi in Medicine and I in Law.By coincidence we took our first appointments in LAGOS UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL and we were both resident at Adisa Bashua in a block of flats . Outside the office we ended up belonging to Friday Club which became very popular because the Club accommodates our
wives. Dovi though thoroughly jovial was extremely hard working. He eventually served as family doctor to members ex gratis. Never allowed any problem to weigh him down.
He built a happy family and was an embodiment of wonderfully good virtue.
We miss you. Rest in the bosom of God Almighty.
ADIEU.

Dr. Kufeji was one of the earliest settlers on Omotoye Layout and therefore was one of the founding fathers of the Landlords Association, that birthed the Omotoye Estate Community Development Association (CDA). Although he didn't take any office because of his schedule of work, he was clearly one of the foremost leaders of thought on most issues. He was a very selfless and compassionate person. This is evident in where he deliberately sited his clinics - in remote areas of Badiya and Mushin, where there were often cases of defaults in payment for treatment received.
In the last few years he moved his medical practice into the Layout, bringing his vast wealth of medical experience within easier reach of residents.
He is well known to be a very generous giver and his life could be summarised as full and well-lived.
Sincere condolences go to the wife, Mummy Two, children and grand children. Thank you for a great time together while you were here and we look forward to an even greater time over there at Jesus feet.

Dr LID Kufeji was Vice President and President of the NPMCN when I was 3rd Senate Member and Secretary respectively representing the Faculty of Anaesthesia. In the brief period that I knew him, I had a good impression of him. I knew him as a gentleman par excellence who was emotionally well balanced, caring and reaching out. As Chairman of Senate he had good control of meetings and ensured smooth running of meetings. He served humanity by establishing his medical practice in an environment inhabited by low and middle income classes. May the Lord comfort his family. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Adieu Dr LID Kufeji, FMCS, Past College President NPMCN.

Even if they were to live to be a hundred years old, those we love are not considered old enough to depart. We can look back at the years and thank God for 76 meaningful years.Uncle left footprints in the sands of time. He was our favorite uncle in our childhood years and there never was a boring moment with him around. I always saw him as one who loved his family, his profession and humanity so much that material things ranked very low on his priority list. It was painful visiting him on October 1, 2018 and nursing the fear that I might never get a chance to see him after that. He has gone home to rest, but he will never be forgotten. The exit of a Christian can be likened to the graduation of a student. Thank God for Omowunmi, Tayo and Dapo and the lovely grandchildren. May God grant him eternal rest and let perpetual light shine upon him. Amen.

With the tributes thus far i guess i knew so little about you, but the short time was filled with beautiful memories.
- You are full of appreciation, as you never failed to thank me for everything I did for you, even if i was obligated to
- You have a great sense of humour, as you never fail to catch my sarcasm, and crack me up on different occasions.
- You are a very caring man, as you never fail to ask about my welfare, and the exam i prepared for under your watch.

Anytime Fela's song pops up on the radio you always told me his house was a stone throw away from yours back in days.

All these while i never knew i sat, talked, ate, and nursed a legend. I am so glad I crossed paths with you and your beautiful family.

Rest on Daddy.

To the “magical” family Doctor.
I honestly do not have the words to describe my feelings when I got news of your sad passing. It was a shock indeed. But God knows. But, I have the fondest memories of you. You were our family doctor while growing up, and I remember that feeling of Doctor Kufeji being able to cure everything... And in very few words too.
We are sad, but the assurance we have is the fact that we shall see again.
Sleep on, Doctor and Rest In Peace.

Life is a mystery and everyone will pass through. Some can be fortunate to achieve success. Some are more fortunate to encounter fame. Of course, some will attain greatness! L I D surely attained greatness! Yet, some will die before they can see their children's children. Whichever way, however, we are reminded about the presence of the Supreme God in our lives, whose decision can neither be questioned nor can his words be ignored.
Our brother, Dr. Leonard Idowu Dovi Kufeji lives on. And so,we rejoice with you; Mowunmi, Tayo & Dapo and the entire Kufeji family on the glorious transition of our Baba, my Egbon, Sir (Dr.) L I D Kufeji, KSM, KSG. We pray that the protection, favour and grace of Almighty God abide and remain with you. We celebrate the life and time of an icon, a benefactor, a confidant and mentor extra-ordinaire. A physician of great repute, a philanthropist and a worthy brother Knight whose life is a model for many to emulate. He has just attained the long and dreary journey through this life to higher glory. May God rest his soul.
May it please God to erase all his inadequacies as a mortal. Amen. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

My WBrother LID as I often called him was both a gentleman and a Knight seeking to give as much as possible to the Society.
Painstaking in every assignment.
When KSM decided to fully activate the Prolife activities at the Metro, LID was CoChairman with me a layman. He was a good listener who took pains to get his colleagues and juniors on the side of service.
God rest your Knightly soul as we condole with the family he left behind.

Pa LID Kufeji is one of those rare personalities who would give you all the attention in the world when the need arises and often leave you each time like you are the only one that truly mattered in the world.
I do not know how many such people exist in our world today but Sir Kufeji was a great reference point for me.
He was a great man, a wonderful Knight, a soul of matchless courage and one of Mater Christi Sub-Council's reference leader, model and inspiration.
I write to pay this tribute of love and respect to a man who used his unparalleled power to the good of mankind.
He used this power to save my life once several years ago and i know as always that he gives to humanity all that he can, when he can in plenty and also very happily.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.Amen.

OUTSTANDING and UNFORGETTABLE BROTHER-IN-LAW.
On behalf of the AWONUGA family, I would like to express our deep regret and pain on the loss of an exceptional soul in the person of Dr L.I.D KUFEJI.
Brother Dovi, as we fondly called him got married to our late, dear and loving sister Edith Olaposi AWONUGA in December 1971, and their beautiful union bore and yielded three marvelous fruits... Mowunmi, Tayo and Dapo to the joy of our entire family.
Brother Dovi was a distinguished son -in- law to our parents and a loving husband to our sister. He was absolutely dedicated to the happiness of his family.
His generosity and abnegation were not only towards his family but also to his patients and everyone else around him, especially the weak and less fortunate of whom many were treated and healed free of charge.
He deliberately situated his clinic in a low income environment in his bid to reach out and serve the needy.
« "Do sleep on brother Dovi, Rest In Peace in the bosom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Having run your race, you passed on the relay baton.
The legacy you left behind is solid and of quality, by the grace of The Almighty God it will be passed on through generations yet to come..."» Amen.

THE AWONUGA FAMILY.

His Life

Biography

June 30, 2020
Dr Leonard Idowu Dovi Kufeji (or as his friends called him  L.I.D), was born on the 8th day of April, 1944. He was the last of 6 children born to Mr Simplicio Makanjuola Kufeji and Mrs Martina Dovi Kufeji. He attended St Paul's catholic primary school in Ebute-Metta, Yaba and then later went on to higher education at St Gregory's College, Lagos. He was accepted to study Medicine at the prestigious Lagos University Teaching Hospital, a degree which he completed with distinction in 1970. In 1977, he became one of the Foundation Fellows of the National Postgraduate Medical College by examination in the Faculty of Surgery.

While in medical school, L.I.D met his first love, Miss Edith Olaposi Awonuga, who was studying to be a nurse at the time. They married in Dec 1971 and had 3 wonderful children together. He completed specialty training and then went into private practice. He worked as a Resident surgeon at Ada hospital in Surulere but eventually left in 1981 to become Medical Director of his own private practice, St Martin-de-Porres Medical Centre, named after the patron saint of the poor. L.I.D set up his clinics in Mushin and in the Badia area of Ijora, to specifically offer his medical services to those less privileged in society. His goal was always to serve. He continued with his private medical work until May 2017, when he was no longer able to practice due to health issues.

His life was tinged with sadness when in 1991, Lapo passed away leaving him with 3 young children. He took it in his stride and raised the children on his own until he remarried several years later.

During his career, L.I.D served as the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Medical Association(NMA), Chairman, Continuing Medical Education Committee of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, NPMCN (1980-1984), Lecture convener of the Faculty of Surgery, NPMCN (1994-2002), Chairman, Faculty Board of Surgery, NPMCN (2003-2007), Vice president of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria ( 2008-2009), and then President of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (2010-2012). He was the first president of the college to obtain his Fellowship by examination. He also served as the Chairman of the Past Presidents Forum of the NPMCN (2015-2016). He was a Foundation Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine (NAMED).

He was also a past president of Ilupeju Lions Club in Lagos, as well as a Past President of the Young Men Relief Society. He also served as Vice Chairman, Lagos Archdiocesan Health Board. He was a Knight of St. Mulumba and a Papal Knight of St. Gregory.

He is survived by his children, Dr (Mrs) Omowunmi Oluwaseun, Dr Omotayo Kufeji and Engr Oladapo Kufeji and 9 grandchildren.
May his soul continue to rest in the bosom of the Father.
We love you daddy - Gone but you always remain in our hearts.

Mentor

June 30, 2020
Very few people can probably say that their dad mentored them in life as well in their careers. I am privileged to say that Daddy was not just a role model at home and in life but also in work as well.

I studied Medicine at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital and daddy's clinic in Mushin was within walking distance to the college. Countless times during my university years, I would stroll down to his clinic to have lunch and we would discuss clinical cases, my studies or just chat. It was a priceless period in my development as a young man and has helped me become the man and the doctor that I am today.

I am forever grateful to my dad and can only pray that I can do the same *for my children as well.

Dad was a child at heart

June 30, 2020
I remember growing up as little kids and my dad would get on the floor to play with us. One of our favourite games was 'donkey'. Dad would get on the floor on all fours and wee would ride on his back like he was a donkey. Sometimes he would have all 3 of us riding at the same time!

Another favourite was 'Tree'. He would lie down and lift one of his legs up in the air and we all had a go at trying to climb up his leg like we were climbing a tree. He would always cheat by moving his leg so you could never get to the top.

He was always up for these childish games and whenever we asked t play, he never refused.
Oh, and daddy loooooved his ice cream. It was always a feature at home after dinner and there was always a tub of ice cream in the freezer as long as I can remember. I reckon he was always a child at heart.
