Linda Reid was one of the most interesting and likable people I ever met, very bright and warm. She was mom to my close friends growing up and always made us feel welcome; such fond memories of evenings with the Reid family. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

There's nothing better than a best friend and mom had one of the all-time greatest. I'll remember Linda for her wit and the laughter which emanated from any room she and my mom occupied. Lisa and Brent, I hope you are finding comfort in all that your mom was and the memories that she created.

Linda and I shared joys, sorrows, dinners, time with friends, and lots of great conversation. Her sharp mind, quick wit, and knowledge of a variety of subjects made me think on a deeper level. We made trips to DC museums, practiced tap dancing with her teaching, and spent evenings watching movies and shared lots of laughter. During these last few months visiting with her, I often came home knowing just how much her friendship had enriched my life. My condolences to her family. She loved you very much.

Linda was a very special woman and friend. I most admired her resilience and quick wit among her many qualities. She was my kayaking buddy and we shared some fun times on the water. During a recent visit, she recounted some of the art/city trips we had done and we laughed as she reminded me of details that I had forgotten. I will miss her!
She loved her family deeply. My condolences to all of you.

Dearest Lisa,Patrick Lindsay and Laura,
Let me start by telling you how much you were all loved by this wonderful woman. Our phone calls always included news about “the
Kids”! Lisa teaching in DC, Patrick fixing some electronics, making costumes for the girls (without a pattern) or a recent visit from Brent and Anita. She was so proud!!

I could write a book about our lifelong friendship but let’s just say no matter how long it had been since we had seen each other we just picked up where we left off. Always good belly laughs and scotch!!

College, families, jobs etc and before you know it    It’s all over. Linda was my very best friend always and forever I will miss her always. It has been a good run, my friend. Rest In Peace.  Love
    Carol. aka Pooka

Lisa and all,

What a life well lived! We loved visiting your family on our trips to Cochranton back in the 70’s and keeping up to date over the years. What a gift to re connect with your mom and get a behind the scenes tour of Mt Vernon and catch up again at Em’s volleyball match years later! So happy she could be a surprise special guest star at my parent’s 50th anniversary.
Finally, after my parents car accident we needed some help with their care and your mom arrived within hours and stayed for days!

Linda was a true renaissance woman and a force of kindness in the world.
God Bless you all.

Lisa,

I hate this part... No matter what is said, it isn't quite "right," not quite enough. Just remember your mom is no longer in any pain and is with all her loved ones who have gone before her.

Much love,
Maureen

Her Life
August 23, 2022
Born and raised in Northwestern Pennsylvania, Linda attended Cochranton, High School where she made life long friends. She met her husband, James R. Reid in 1955 and they married and had 4 children. While family was their main focus in life, together they were active in the community and gave their endless energies to the Cochranton High School Band and its many concerts, parades and trips, PTA, boy scouts, girl scouts, 11 foster children and various organizations and work places.

While raising her children, Linda went to college “late” being one of the first recipients of the Allegheny College Continuing Education Scholarship for Community Women and she later graduated from Edinboro University with her BA and Masters in counseling. Following her schooling, she lived in Zibo, China teaching English at the Zibo Teachers College. Upon her return to Pennsylvania, she was employed at Women's Services and the Center for Families in Change in Meadville. She then went to work in the Allegheny Counseling Center as a counselor for several years.

She moved to Alexandria Virginia in 1997 where she worked as a docent at Mt. Vernon while she was serving as nanny to her new grand-daughter. Three years later, she moved to Southern Maryland where she worked for the Calvert Memorial Hospital as a counselor before retiring. In Southern Maryland she made many new friends some of whom remained friends throughout the remainder of her time in Maryland. She also enjoyed sailing with friends, tap dancing and kayaking.

Linda was my neighbor...just three doors down the road on Route 285.    After Jim passed away we bough a used car from her.    She eventually became my friend and mentor when I received the Allegheny College Continuing Education Scholarship for Community Women and then the Loretta Walsh Scholarship.  She was a lovely lady and a true inspiration.  Although when she moved away,  we did lose touch with one another, she has remained close at heart and frequently thought of,  throughout the years since she left our Cochranton Community. I  knew she had gone to China to teach and eventually returned to the states and was residing near DC.  I drive past their old house every day and always think of the Reid Family who called it their home.  I have always wondered how Linda was doing. And now my question has been answered. I am comforted knowing that she is reunited in spirit with her loved ones that have gone before.  That old house is well loved and well maintained by the current family that resides there. I think she would be happy to know that love and laughter remains in the house that she called home for so many years <3
