My Momma was truly one-of-a kind. She was gregarious, stubborn, beautiful inside and out, with an elegance and grace you just don’t find anymore. She could hear a joke one time and put it her joke repertoire. She loved life and everyone around her, especially her family.
She was not the kind of Mother who stopped her own life to be part of ours, no she kept all of her own fun and activities and we blended in with everything that she had already set up in her life. She didn’t dot over us, but kept us safe and sound throughout the years. Mom had many hobbies and adventures and none of that stopped after having her kids. She loved a good book, a good cross word puzzle, painting and knitting, anything to use her creative side of her brain was fulfilling to her. Her cats kept her great company and she loved coming home to their sweet meows.
In her youth she was adventurous and loved having a good time. She was always dressed to the nines, with every single accessory matching. A good hair day for her was all she could ever want. A bit vain, but to her looking good was feeling good. I have fond memories of her keeping her head out of the water while swimming in the pool so she would not get her hair wet.
Her little klatches of card games – an almost obsolete card game – Pan - was her pride and joy, she loved to gamble, but in very small amounts, she would never do anything fool hearted or stupid. When she won $14.00 at a card game she would call me and say she had the luckiest day.
Her grandsons meant the world to her and she made sure she spoke to them a few times a days. She would discuss their daily tasks and what was on their minds. Always telling me how sweet both of them are. Charlie and David.
Mom was a lot of things, but she knew the power of family, she knew how to forgive and forget, so loved deeply, and was always curious. She loved with abandonment and wanted everyone around her to be happy. She never wanted confrontation, and always wanted everyone to love and cherish each other, now that she’s gone there is a lot to be said for taking the time out each day and say I love you to those that are important to you.
My brother and I loved our mother with as much love as humanly possible, there are so may amazing memories for me. We did 2 cruises in the last 5 years and lots of mini travel trips. She had just come back from a very great trip to Cambria with her besties and has a blast. She always loved to travel with me and experience all the joy that we could find together. She was my sidekick, my best friend; just don’t know what I will do without her. But one thing I know for sure she would not want any of us to be sad or wallow, she used to tell me, “Honey, Life is for the Living!”
