I have always remembered that day in 1964 when Lois became Mrs. P. B. Stockmon and moved into Brookflow as the day when I met my very best friend - her oldest daughter Pat. Pat and I shared many magical moments growing up side by side, until Pat died much too young many years ago. Now, as I reflect on Lois's passing, I realize how many memories I cherish of Lois as well. I remember as a child, sitting in the living room listening to her play 'In a Monastery Garden' on her grand piano. To this day, I love that piano piece and cherish that memory. I remember that Lois took us kids to see a performance of the Dayton ballet troupe, which made me dream of being a ballerina. Also, I first saw 'To Kill a Mockingbird' over at Stockmon's. It has always been a favorite of mine, as it was of Lois's. After every party that Pat and I would have, Lois would patiently listen to all the details of our exciting evening. Long after I had left home, I looked forward to visiting Lois at Brookflow, seeing her sitting out on her beloved porch, listening to the birds or her classical music. She always made me feel welcome. I will miss those visits. The one solace is that Lois's daughter Sue and her family will be carrying on the tradition at Brookflow. I look forward to continuing my visits to that special place that holds so many memories. Carol, Sue, and Brooks, please accept my sincere sympathy for your loss and my gratitude for all the childhood memories we share.
