I have always remembered that day in 1964 when Lois became Mrs. P. B. Stockmon and moved into Brookflow as the day when I met my very best friend - her oldest daughter Pat. Pat and I shared many magical moments growing up side by side, until Pat died much too young many years ago. Now, as I reflect on Lois's passing, I realize how many memories I cherish of Lois as well. I remember as a child, sitting in the living room listening to her play 'In a Monastery Garden' on her grand piano. To this day, I love that piano piece and cherish that memory. I remember that Lois took us kids to see a performance of the Dayton ballet troupe, which made me dream of being a ballerina. Also, I first saw 'To Kill a Mockingbird' over at Stockmon's. It has always been a favorite of mine, as it was of Lois's. After every party that Pat and I would have, Lois would patiently listen to all the details of our exciting evening. Long after I had left home, I looked forward to visiting Lois at Brookflow, seeing her sitting out on her beloved porch, listening to the birds or her classical music. She always made me feel welcome. I will miss those visits. The one solace is that Lois's daughter Sue and her family will be carrying on the tradition at Brookflow. I look forward to continuing my visits to that special place that holds so many memories.
