Diagnosis

May 6, 2015

Lorell's accounting career in California followed a repeating pattern.  Learn the job, discover the corruption, close the company, find another job.  Each time she experienced annual salary increases but the disappointment in human tendencies began to grow old for her and it wasn't long before she switched from accounting to HR.

Within a year after her career change, she became ill, went to the doctor and was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and subsequently put on the transplant list.  She was encouraged to return to New Mexico and did.  Somewhere around 1996 she decided to move back to California, bought a home and got situated again.  Within a year, she returned to New Mexico again after her family pleaded with her to come home.

California

In the 1980's Lorell moved to the Los Angeles area.  Her employer had expanded to that area and offered her a position there.  She at first lived with family members and eventually had an apartment and ultimately a homes of her own.

Her brother Scott came to visit often in 1986 as he looked for work after being discharged from the Navy.  She seemed to enjoy having him around and made the most of it by having him help her move several times.  Each move was a successive upgrade from the previous location. Each time acquiring new furniture.

Lorell was very active in her church and always passionate about her love of God.   Her commitment to Calvary Chapel Long Beach and Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa occupied most of her time.  There may have been two days a week that she did not engage in a church-based activity.  A generous contributor, missionary, and active member lead to so many social outlets and so many blessed relationships.

When her brother visited her once in 1989 he asked her how she could read her Bible with so many notes in the margin, underlines, highlites, and inserts.  He attended services with her many times and as soon as the chance to worship came, her hands were up and her eyes filled with tears. Her profound passion was always inspirational.

Stateside

Financial hard times had come upon the Campbells when they returned to the states.  Lorell (or Lori as she was then called), resumed her studies in accounting and eventually took a position with Frontier in Albuquerque.  Over time, her ability with numbers won her an important role as accountant for Frontier.  It was then that she established a great lifelong friendship with Teresa, Brian and others.

Lorell attended "Guitar Mass" at St. Charles and visited the earliest starts of Calvary Chapel at the Wyoming mall in Albuquerque as she sought out worship venues.  Her spiritual journey began to build momentum in New Mexico which the Lord must have used to get her to California.

Teens and Twenties

May 6, 2015

Lorell spent most of her time in grade school learning. Outside of dance and swimming her interest in sports was limited.  She excelled at math though and became a bookkeeper for her father's business while still in her teens and attending Highland High.

In the early 1970's Lorell's family moved to the middle east for a short time. Along the way, she traveled throughout Europe.  After arriving in Beirut, Lorell decided she would study abroad and settled on University of Beirut in Lebanon.  The region was stable then and Beirut was consided a destination resort for europeans and the middle east.

While studying in Beirut, she visited Bahgdad, Amman, and Cairo. In Cairo, unrest erupted in the region and her passport was stolen.  Her parents wanted her to return to the states immediately without returning to Beirut. Stubborn and confident as always, she somehow ignored her families wishes with no consequence.

Childhood

May 6, 2015

Though she was born in Boston, Lorell grew up in Albuquerque, NM.  Growing up, she would often her spend weekends in Santa Fe or Taos with her grandmas, mother, father and brother.  She also spent much of her youth close to her cousins - the Yates, the Lindleys and the Loeflers. Kim Yates Scott and Lorell remained close friends until Kim's untimely passing a few years before.

Friday nights with family usually involved movies and occassional ball game at Dukes Stadium.  Even at an early age, Lorell spent many hours watching the big screen and eventually saved enough to buy her own color television before she was 15 - she was passionate about tv and film.

Lorell learned to ski, swim, and dance at an early age.  Her love of dance persisted throughout her life.
